Multi-tiered bow: planting, leaving

An interesting vegetable plant that forms air bulbs in several tiers instead of flowers is called a multi-tiered onion. Its juicy greens contain a lot of vitamins; since early spring, salads are prepared from it, and onions are used for pickling. Eating such onions is beneficial for high blood pressure and stomach problems.

Light fertile soil with neutral acidity is suitable for planting. When preparing the site, it is advisable to add humus, superphosphate and potassium salt.

Multi-tiered onions do not form seeds; instead of them, bulbs grow on the peduncle

Multi-tiered onions do not form seeds, they propagate with air or basal bulbs

Freshly picked air bulbs are dried before planting for at least a week. The bulbs are planted at a distance of 10 cm, 40 cm are left between the rows. The best time for planting young plants in open ground is the first half of August. Onions of the first year are fed in spring with a weak solution of ammonium nitrate and potassium sulfate.

Features of multi-tiered bow care

In one place, this perennial onion can grow up to 5 years. If the planting thickens too much, it is thinned out by digging out excess bulbs and replanting them to an empty place. In the spring, they clear the beds with onions from last year’s leaves, loosen and weed.

Abundant watering in dry weather allows you to get juicy and delicate tasting leaves. As air bulbs begin to develop, the leaves become stiffer and sharper.

Caring for onions is simple, it consists in timely watering, removing weeds, and complex fertilizing. Leaves for food are cut several times per season to keep them tasty and tender. The approximate interval between cuts is 20 days.

The air bulbs begin to pick up when they darken and separate slightly from the arrows. If this is not done, they will fall into the ground by self-sowing and sprout. Between the beds, during the formation of air bulbs, pegs are stuck in and twine is pulled so that the arrows do not fall to the ground under the weight of the crop.

Onions are not sheltered for the winter, they tolerate frosts of -45 ° C well, even when the soil is deeply frozen. The aboveground part of the plant dies off in the fall, if the onion planted in August managed to take root well, vitamin greens will begin to grow immediately after the snow melts.

Multi-tiered onions contain more vitamins than all other types of onions, they have nutritional and medicinal value. Growing onions is easy; in order for it to produce tasty and juicy greens, regular watering, weeding and feeding are necessary.
