Production features

Mukuzani is made in only one region – in the vicinity of the village of the same name, located in the east of Georgia – in Kakheti.

Wine belongs to the category of controlled origin and cannot be produced in other territories.

Saperavi grapes with dark blue fruits are used as raw materials for a unique drink.

It is also taken as a basis for creating other famous wines of the region, such as Kindzmarauli and Pirosmani.

The highlight of the classic Mukuzani is the long aging in oak. The average period of its maturation in barrels is 3 years, while other drinks from Saperavi are stored in oak containers for no more than 2 years.

The result is an elegant, aged product with 10-13% ABV and rich flavor – one of the best in its category.

Manufacturing process

  1. Manual collection and sorting of raw materials, which ensure the safety of berries (harvest grapes after they reach maximum maturity and sugar content).

  2. Separating the stems and crushing the bunches together with the pits and skins.

  3. Primary fermentation of the must in stainless steel vats or ceramic vessels immersed in the ground (qvevri) at a constant temperature for several months.

  4. Long exposure in oak barrels.

Overview of the drink and recommendations for use

The noble Mukuzani is characterized by an intense garnet color with a transition to black.

The consistency of the drink is thick, dense, viscous. The taste is perceptible astringency and velvety.

Due to the heavy rough texture, the wine has received the status of “male”, although in small doses it has long been given to children to treat anemia and weakness.

Not everyone will be able to appreciate the drink: it is intended for lovers of aged products, who will not be deterred by assertiveness and power.

Mukuzani’s bouquet is complex and multifaceted

It has berry tones, soft oak flavor, hints of chocolate and herbs.

You can catch subtle spicy notes and slight bitterness.

Mukuzani is considered wayward and requires more chilling than other red wines.

It is served at 13–18 °C. The best addition to a special drink will be meat, including fried and barbecue, salads, spicy dishes, fatty cheeses.
