How not to remember communist ideals in November. For many, they remain very attractive today. As, however, almost any ideals. After all, an ideal is something that fundamentally does not coincide with imperfect reality, that is better than it, that should make its way and replace what is now.
That is why at all times those who could formulate and propose lofty ideals enjoyed attention, because they set the direction of movement towards a brighter future. This is the basis of the significance of world religions — all in their own way give a person the prospect of growth.
History, however, teaches that the sublimity and purity of an ideal in no way guarantee the sublimity and purity of the actions of its bearer. Some (there are a huge number of them), having confessed their love for high ideals, believe that this alone already makes them worthy people. And at least somehow trying to personally meet these ideals is considered superfluous. Nothing remains of the ideal but beautiful words. Others (there are not so many of them, but it would be better not to exist at all), on the contrary, in the name of their ideal, develop frenzied activity, imposing it on others and destroying everything that does not correspond to it. Almost all the bloody revolutions and terrorist attacks in history were carried out under very noble slogans. Few people intentionally want to do evil. Most of the blood is shed in the name of good — only in a peculiar way understood.
A good goal is easy to point out. it is much more important to choose worthy means in order to move towards it
The subtlety is that it is not the ideal itself that is important, but the movement towards it. In the programs of all political parties in the world, the goals are approximately the same. The paths to them differ, if they are specified at all. There is a bright target. There is an imperfect present. How to connect them is the question of all questions. Here lies the true boundary of evil and good — between the belief that a good end justifies any means to achieve it, and the opposite — that unworthy means discredit any end. Therefore, by the way, the communist ideals also failed.
The ideals themselves are good, but the proposed paths to them turned out to be sometimes inhuman, sometimes unrealistic. This, however, is a rather typical case for our country — let us recall some of the heroes of Dostoevsky. Russia, perhaps, is in first place in the world both in terms of the loftiness of ideals and the depth of the abyss separating them from reality.
As a result, they are unable to perform their main function — to direct its transformation. Let’s remember that the target is just a pointer. The road will be mastered by the walking one. And it’s better to watch where you step.
