Mouth guards for aligning teeth: reviews. Video

The Hollywood smile is the key to success, many believe. And they are not too wrong: a beautiful smile with a healthy, even dentition, of course, is conducive to communication. However, by nature, beautiful teeth are not given to many, so orthodontists offer many methods for correcting occlusion and aligning teeth, including modern invisible aligners, actively replacing bulky braces.

Alignment aligners: reviews

Very often, faced with the need to correct crooked teeth, malocclusion using the usual bracket systems, patients in dental clinics prefer to refuse treatment. The main reason is the fear of unaesthetic and discomfort from braces.

It is difficult to argue with the fact that braces are not the most aesthetic designs. Modern developments have significantly improved their appearance, but braces are still too noticeable. In addition, when using braces, there are a number of restrictions in nutrition and the rhythm of daily life, they spoil the tooth enamel and require special regular cleaning.

Innovative technologies and constant work in this direction have made it possible to develop a more attractive solution for patients in need of orthodontic correction. Invisalign aligners (translated as “invisible straightening”) can be a real alternative for those who care about a beautiful smile, but cannot afford long-term braces.

It should be noted that mouthguards came to cosmetic dentistry from big sports. Rubber and later silicone inserts began to be used by boxers and wrestlers to protect their teeth from the blows of the enemy. However, this invention turned out to be very convenient, and most importantly, effective from the point of view of orthodontics.

Transparent, close-fitting to the teeth, Invisalign aligners allow to make the treatment process quite comfortable and, importantly, invisible to others. Mouth guards do not require additional restrictions in the choice of food, do not affect the patient’s daily lifestyle.

Today aligners are made from durable biopolymers. They, of course, have a high cost, but you need to understand that the mouthguard must be regularly changed, making a new one, taking into account the changes in the dentition that have occurred. Accordingly, the price includes not only and not so much material as the professional work of a whole team of doctors and technicians.

Unlike braces, aligners can and should be removed while eating and brushing your teeth. This procedure is simple and does not cause much trouble, which is important – removing the mouthguard does not spoil the tooth enamel.

Using mouth guards, you can achieve a double effect. The fact is that some types imply the possibility of not only straightening the dentition, but also teeth whitening. To do this, the doctor applies a special gel to the inner surface of the aligner, which, in contact with the tooth enamel, removes excess pigment. Wearing such caps differs from the usual ones, because you need to observe and not exceed the time of contact of the gel with the tooth. Therefore, after processing the mouth guard by the doctor, it must be removed at the right time and rinsed, and then placed on the teeth. Ideally, there should be two aligners.

Restrictions on wearing mouthguards

The only drawback of the Invisalign cap is the limited scope of their application. Not all bite defects and dental abnormalities can be corrected with transparent structures. Severe twisting and severe malocclusion can still be corrected only with braces. Mouth guards will not be delivered to those patients who have surgical problems with the dentition, as well as several artificial structures in the same row.

Mouthguards are shown if necessary:

  • get rid of gaps between teeth
  • eliminate minor malocclusion
  • straighten teeth misalignments
  • straighten a little twist

Also, aligners help to consolidate the results achieved while wearing braces, and therefore you can get rid of the hated metal arcs earlier, simply by replacing them with comfortable and invisible Invisalign designs.

Removable mouth guards “Invisalign”

It is up to the orthodontist to decide whether transparent aligners are suitable for each individual case. If the mouthguards are chosen as a method of treatment, dental impressions are formed, and on their basis – a computer model of the displacement of the teeth, while the doctor will certainly conduct a survey of the patient: he will carefully listen to his feedback, on the basis of which he will draw a conclusion on the degree of comfort of the procedure and the possibility increasing the pressure on the teeth with a mouthguard. For each offset step, its own mouthguard is made.

It takes about two months to manufacture the structures. After that, the doctor simply puts on the aligners on the upper and then on the lower dentition of the patient, and every two weeks the patient changes the mouthguard, thus achieving the necessary correction. Wearing “Invisalign” requires some getting used to: the first few days the patient experiences slight pressure on the teeth.

In the first weeks of wearing a mouthguard, slight diction disorders are possible, but you can get used to Invisalign much faster than to bracket systems

To achieve an effective result, the trays should be used for at least 22 hours a day, strictly following the change schedule prescribed by the orthodontist. For a period from several months to two years with the help of transparent aligners “Invisalign” you can eliminate many orthodontic problems without changing the usual way of life and without experiencing discomfort.
