Mountain pine mugus in landscape design
Pine trees are prized by landscape designers for their flexibility and unpretentiousness. They can be given a variety of shapes and sizes. All types of soil are suitable for growing a plant.
The use of Mugus pine in landscape design
“Mugus” refers to the shrub varieties of pine. Its dense crown grows, forming a creeping carpet of greenery. The height and width of the plant does not exceed 3 m. Short shoots have an upward bend. This pine variety is distinguished by its slow growth. On average, the tree grows 10−12 cm during the year. The needles have a deep green color with a bluish tint. Rigid needles are arranged in pairs and are often twisted. After 7-8 years of life, wide cone-shaped cones begin to form.
Mountain pine “Mugus” is considered semi-dwarf. It is used to create curbs, form green hedges and plant mixborders. The plant can serve as the bottom tier in complex compositions or grown as a tapeworm. Landscape designers note a number of its advantages:
- slow growth allows you to preserve the appearance of the pine for a long time, even in the absence of careful care;
- endurance – pine tolerates climate change and frost, and flexible branches are not damaged by snow masses;
- unpretentiousness – “Mugus” does not need labor-intensive care.
The tree is irreplaceable in rock gardens and rockeries. It can even be used to decorate stony soils. Its aroma fills the air of the infield and makes it fresh. In recreation areas, pine creates coziness and protects from the wind. The strong root system allows it to be grown to strengthen the slopes.
You can plant a plant on any type of soil. It can grow even in poor soils with low micronutrient content. Acidity is also not important. The tree cannot tolerate only high levels of salt. It is better to choose a site for planting on the sunny side or in partial shade.
“Mugus” is distinguished by its increased resistance to external factors. It tolerates frost and drought, and its branches do not suffer from strong winds and snowfall.
The tree is planted in wide and deep holes. Drainage must be installed before planting. It is important not to deepen the root collar. After planting, the soil is watered abundantly.
Pine is prized for its minimal maintenance and high endurance. She is not afraid of both weather conditions and pests. She tolerates pruning well.
