Mother’s parting words: amazing fates of people

😉 Greetings to regular and new readers! “Mother’s Advice” is an amazing story from the life that I have witnessed.

Karina

My neighbor Anna is a heroic girl with a difficult fate. She and her mother moved to our house when the girl was only 3 years old. I was already 10 years old then, so we could not be friends, but I often looked after the baby in the yard.

Behind the friendly smile and affectionate gaze of the dark-skinned Armenian woman of Aunt Karina, the neighbors did not immediately discern a woman with a hard life. She was not too frank …

She and her daughter lived modestly, Karina worked a lot, often fulfilling orders at home – she knitted clothes and tablecloths of amazing beauty. I remember my mother ordering a bright blue cardigan from her. She then wore it for another 10 years – he was so beautiful.

Anya did not have a father. At least we have never seen him. A couple of times some muddy man burst into their apartment, but whether he was or not is unknown. We, vigilant neighbors, did not allow to offend the quiet Karina and to this inadequate uncle clearly explained that it was not worth bothering this family.

Karina never admitted whether it was Ani’s father. It was rumored that at the age of 16 she was taken by force by some criminal, and her religious family decided to “wash away the shame from the family” – to marry the “spoiled” girl to this geek.

That thief – or whoever he was – disappeared on the second day. And Karina moved to our city out of shame and filed for divorce.

And so they lived together: dark-eyed Karina and little Anechka – a non-Armenian white-haired girl. She was the first student at school, sweet and modest, the favorite of teachers. I can’t even believe that the child had a bad heredity.

Anna

When Anya was 15 years old, Karin suffered a stroke. She could no longer work and even really serve herself. I must say that we helped as best we could – my mother, then me. But most of all, of course, went to Anya. Instead of a carefree youth, she had a life full of work and care as a nanny with her mother.

Soon she learned to knit just as well as Karina, performing work under her strict guidance. And yet the family barely made ends meet. When the girl graduated from high school, she had to go to a local college, forgetting about the capital’s universities. Where will you go!

Then she got a job as an administrator in a hospital next to the house. I think to get the necessary medicines for the mother and to be monitored by the best doctors.

And Karina’s health problems only worsened over time: in addition to the stroke, signs of Alzheimer’s began to appear. Anyone who has encountered this disease knows what consequences it promises in the future. Anya was already under 30, and she could not have a family – who would want to take a crippled mother-in-law with his wife ?!

When I last saw Karina, she practically did not even recognize her own daughter, where can she remember me! Anya said that the day before, she barely had time to arrive home in time: her mother turned on the gas and almost blew up the house! In a word, everything was so that I had to think about a home for the disabled.

Anya cried, and I tried to support her, agreeing that there was no other solution. It did not come to this …

Last wish

Karina died a week later, and on the eve of her death she suddenly looked at Anya with such a completely clear and meaningful look and with a gesture called her closer. “Anechka, daughter, forgive me that you had to sit with me all your youth. You couldn’t even fall in love! And she forgot that she was young and beautiful, that life was passing by …

That’s it. I’m leaving. Don’t cry, it’s for the best. And you go to work as soon as possible, but not to your hospital. Go to the regional one. There is a good place. As for you! They’ll take it, don’t mind! Your future husband is already waiting for you there. He is a doctor, his name is Slava. Nice person, you will be happy. Tell Slava that … “

She said nothing more. Groaning, she lost consciousness … We buried Karina a week later, and Anya soon changed her job.

I was probably the only person to whom Anya told about her mother’s parting words, about the reason for her leaving the hospital. It seemed strange to me that she listened to the insane advice, but … Six months later, Anya, running up to me in the evening, announced that she was getting married.

– Wow! – I exclaimed joyfully. – Where did you find him so quickly? Oh, don’t tell! Let me guess … At a new place of work? And his name is …

– Yes, Slava! – Anya laughed. – He is an ophthalmologist, a specialist of the highest category!
