The book is about how a mother convinced her own daughter Madeline that she was sick with a mysterious ailment – an allergy to life. And as soon as she leaves the sterile room, all the microbes known to the world will immediately attack Madeline. The girl has already resigned herself to the fact that she has to spend her whole life within four walls and in complete solitude. But then a nice guy appears in the neighborhood. Spark, love … Freedom. And it turned out that there was no illness at all. Mom invented her so that her daughter was always by her side.
Sounds completely implausible. But recently on the portal a story from real life appeared, which almost completely repeats the book plot.
Mom, Didi Blanchard, raised her daughter Gypsy Rose alone. Didi did not work – she simply could not afford to leave her seriously ill child alone.

In addition, Didi tearfully told everyone she could that Gypsy had epilepsy, genetic defects, she had leukemia in childhood, and was still lagging behind in development. According to the mother, the intelligence of the 23-year-old girl was like that of a seven-year-old child.

Gypsy’s intelligence wasn’t nearly as bad as her mother had said. In any case, she was at home on the Internet. I communicated with people on social networks. Of course, she had practically no socialization skills, because her mother practically isolated her from live communication. The girl’s psyche has also probably suffered a lot. Now she will need the help of a specialist to be able to lead a normal life.
Why? Why did the mother doom her daughter to the life of a disabled person? Psychologists explained: the sick person in this family was actually Didi Blanchard. Gypsy Rose’s mother suffered from Munchausen syndrome. This is a serious mental illness in which a person thinks that he is suffering from a terrible illness. Or he attributes illness to his loved ones. All this is to attract the attention of society, to make people sympathize with themselves.
This story ended very sadly. So, Gypsy Rose met a guy – Nikolos Godejon. They fell in love with each other. Gypsy persuaded her lover to get rid of her mother, and the man did it. As a result, both were sentenced to prison terms, but Gypsy does not regret anything – she was able to get rid of the one that, in her opinion, ruined her whole life.
