Moscow State University and GSK taught artificial intelligence to determine the stage of osteoarthritis by X-ray

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common joint diseases that can significantly impair the quality of life, which is why it is so important to diagnose it as early as possible. To this end, GSK Consumer Healthcare and the Moscow State University Medical Research and Education Center launched the Osteoscan online platform.

GSK Consumer Healthcare and the Moscow State University Medical Research and Education Center have teamed up to create an innovative project Osteoscan, which will help determine the possible stage of osteoarthritis of the knee joints without a visit to the doctor.

“Osteoarthritis is one of the most common diseases of the musculoskeletal system. In the Russian Federation, the number of patients with OA is steadily growing and is about 15 million people, ”notes Olga Anatolyevna Georginova, rheumatologist at Moscow State University Medical Center.

Artificial intelligence analyzes the X-ray image, asks questions about your health condition. Then, based on the data received, the service provides information about the possible stage of the disease. In addition to recognizing X-ray images, the service serves as an information resource, helping to learn more about the possible causes of the disease, the principles of its diagnosis, methods of treatment and prevention.

The platform allows you to find out the diagnosis,

with only an X-ray on my hands

How it works: the artificial intelligence system compares the uploaded image with 1 images of certain stages of osteoarthritis and gives the result. For more accurate operation of the system, the user is invited to take a survey, which includes 300 questions about the lifestyle and well-being, the nature of pain and its effect on the performance of everyday tasks. In your personal account, you can save the results and track the dynamics of the disease.

The site has a detailed video instruction
