Morshanskoye

“Morshanskoye” beer is produced by one of the few enterprises in the industry with more than a century of history. The specificity of this brewery is the use of barley from its own fields and water from an artesian well in the brewery, combined with the best yeast cultures and hop varieties from the Czech Republic and Germany.

The brewery, which began a century ago with wooden wort vats and transported finished products on rafts, today offers two dozen varieties of unfiltered, live and pasteurized beers. The company sells its products through the chain of Morshansky Kupets brand stores, has representative offices in Moscow and a number of regional cities in central Russia – Voronezh, Lipetsk, Tambov.

Historical information

The construction of the Belousov beer and mead factory on the site of the former distillery began on the eve of the First World War. The brewery was built according to a German project using German equipment and under the guidance of an engineer from Germany. Initially, three varieties of the drink were produced according to German technology – “Pilsen”, “Black” and “Bavarian”. The first brewing of beer took place on August 22, 1914.

The location of the plant on the banks of the Tsna River was not accidental, since the place was famous for its productive barley fields and tasty water, which was pumped from a 200-meter well for beer production. The river also served as the main transport artery. This state of affairs continued until the end of 1917, when the brewery was shut down due to the outbreak of the Civil War.

The production of Morshansky beer resumed in 1932 and continued in limited volumes even during the Great Patriotic War. Partial reconstruction was carried out after the victory in the 60s of the last century. In 1992, the enterprise became a joint-stock company, and a large-scale modernization of production began in 2006.

Today, only a few buildings remain from the former Belousov brewery. But the technology uses pre-softened water from the same source, the malt in the new workshop is still made from local barley. Modern technological equipment has been installed at all production sites of Morshansky beer:

  • South Korean steam generators in a gas boiler house;
  • cylindrical-conical stainless steel tanks for fermentation and post-fermentation processes;
  • installation of CKD reproduction of pure culture of yeast;
  • tunnel pasteurizer;
  • filling lines for kegs, glass and PET bottles from Italy and the Czech Republic.

The brewing process is fully automated, carried out according to German programs. At the same time, the plant is developing recipes for new varieties of drinks, whose taste qualities differ from the refined and sometimes boring products of beer giants, but to a greater extent correspond to the original traditions of the production of live and unfiltered beer.

Types of “Morshansky” beer

Zhigulevskoe, 4%

A classic lager caramel-colored beer with fairly generous foam. Brewed according to a traditional recipe from barley, hops and light malt. It stands out for its rich taste with a noticeable hop bitterness and a barely noticeable sweetness, uncharacteristic of Soviet beer. The plant also offers unfiltered beer with the same name, as well as “Zhigulevskoye green” with a yeast note in the aroma.

“Red beer” (Red beer), 4,6%

Light intoxicating drink, the color of which varies from dark red to amber-ruby. The recipe goes back to the famous “March” beer of 1935. It is brewed from several types of red and caramel malts. Somewhat “heavier” than classic lagers, but with a mild taste, genuine hop aroma, moderate bitterness.

Merchant, 4,6%

Beer according to classical technology, in which there is nothing that would contradict the Reinheitsgebot law of 1516 on the purity of brewing. Ingredients: artesian water, a mixture of Czech Carahell and Pilsner malts, local barley malt. It has a clean, mild taste with a muted hop bitterness at the end.

Morshanskoye (light), 4,5%

Beer according to the original recipe, which, in addition to light barley malt, water, hops, includes sugar and corn grits. Non-classical sweetness beyond the usual level gives the drink originality. The taste is soft with a memorable bready aftertaste.

Merchant Khmelnoy (light), 5,0%

Elite lager from the exclusive line of Morshansky beer. Produced by the method of “dense” brewing with fermentation and further fermentation. Brewed from brewing barley malt, water and hops with the addition of corn grits and sugar. Differs in original taste with a moderate shade of sweetness and the expressed hop bitterness of aftertaste. In addition to the pasteurized drink, the plant produces live beer with the same name.
