Morlin Poultry Hamburger – Why Has It Been Retired?
As we read on the GIS website, the activities of the State Sanitary Inspectorate detected the presence of Salmonella enteritidis in the batch of “Classic poultry hamburger” below.

Discontinued Morlin product – what next?
After confirming the presence of Salmonella in poultry hamburger, the Veterinary Inspection in Opole started an investigation at the production plant.
Animex Foods sp. Z o. O. Branch in Opole immediately after receiving information about the detection of presence Salmonella Enteritidis in the product Classic poultry hamburger 250 g marked with batch number 6350221255 «started the recall procedure and immediately took all measures to eliminate the potential risk of microbial contamination ».

According to GIS, “it was established that the questioned batch is no longer in stock at the plant, and the plant took immediate steps to withdraw the batch and informed the commercial networks to which it distributed the goods about its immediate withdrawal from the market”.
The District Veterinary Doctor in Opole monitors the process of withdrawing the batch from the market.
Salmonella – what is it?
Salmonella is a genus of Gram-negative rods belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family. Within 2 species, Salmonella bongori and Samonella enterica, more than 2500 different serotypes or sub-types have been identified so far. Salmonella is a ubiquitous and resistant bacteria that can survive for several weeks in a dry environment and several months in water.

These serotypes cause gastroenteritis. The disease can be quite severe in children, the elderly and immunocompromised patients. This group includes the Salmonella enterica serotypes Enteritidis and Salmonella entericaserotype Typhimurium, the two most important Salmonella serotypes transmitted from animals to humans in most parts of the world.
Salmonella – symptoms of poisoning
Salmonellosis is a disease caused by the Salmonella bacteria. It is usually characterized by an acute onset accompanied by fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and sometimes vomiting.
The onset of disease symptoms occurs 6-72 hours (usually 12-36 hours) after infection Salmonellaand the disease lasts for 2 – 7 days.
Symptoms of salmonellosis are relatively mild and in most cases patients recover without specific treatment. However, in some cases, especially in children and the elderly, the disease can be dangerous due to dehydration, which can become severe and life-threatening.
