Pertussis is one of the most serious and long-lasting infections, so timely vaccinations are especially important. In 2019, the number of vaccine refusals decreased.
In 2019, more than 100 thousand young residents of the capital received vaccinations against whooping cough in Moscow. Vaccination is carried out in polyclinics at the place of residence after being examined by a pediatrician. Doctors note that by the end of last year, the number of refusals from vaccinations has decreased significantly.
Pertussis vaccination is given to babies at the age of 3 months, 4,5 months and 6 months, followed by revaccination at the age of one and a half years. However, immunity to this disease can be maintained up to about 5 years. Because of this, children of primary school age often suffer from whooping cough.
“Therefore, in many countries of the world, the second revaccination of whooping cough is carried out at the age of 6-7 years. And Moscow is no exception – since the beginning of 2020, the newest combined vaccine, which protects against three diseases at once: pertussis, diphtheria and tetanus, has been used for repeated revaccination. Don’t put your child in danger by refusing vaccinations, ”said Oleg Filippov, chief physician of the Center for Medical Prevention of the Moscow Department of Health.
In the capital, since January 2020, children aged 6-7 years have the opportunity to receive an additional vaccination against whooping cough. It is included in the regional immunization schedule and is completely free.
In February 2020, Muscovites who have access to their children’s electronic medical records will also be able to view information about vaccinations in a special section called “Vaccinations”. So far, the service is running in test mode.
Parents are also notified of the need to vaccinate their children against infections included in the regional vaccination schedule. These include diseases such as whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, rubella, polio, tuberculosis and mumps.
Over the period of operation of the service, 1,5 million such notifications were sent in the form of push notifications, SMS messages and e-mails. In the future, the list of vaccinations for distribution is planned to be expanded.
