More and more Poles are quitting smoking, while the number of lung cancer patients is growing

Lung cancer is currently the most common malignant neoplasm in Poland and is the first cause of death in oncology. Annually, more than 20 die because of it. people. This number is constantly growing, although half as many Poles smoke cigarettes than 10 years ago. Air pollution is to blame for everything. 11 people died from smog-related diseases in the last year alone.

According to the latest data from the Polish Federation of Asthma and Allergy Patients, over the last year 11 people died from diseases caused by smog, and several hundred thousand fell ill due to polluted air. Pollution standards are often exceeded even by several hundred percent. The situation is worst in large cities in southern Poland.

Poland is in the first place in Europe when it comes to benzoapirene concentration. It is one of the most toxic and dangerous components of smog, it is highly carcinogenic, while we exceed its standards by up to 16 percent. – warns Dr. Piotr Dąbrowiecki, allergologist from the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw.

Breathing polluted air causes diseases such as asthma, high blood pressure, allergic rhinitis and even Alzheimer’s disease. Poles suffer and die of lung cancer more and more often, although the number of smokers continues to decline. Smog is a deadly threat. Despite the fight against smog, the situation in Poland is still alarming.
