– There are more and more covid patients in serious condition in hospitals. This includes patients who did not ask for help during the holiday season – said Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska.
Coronavirus in Poland. The third wave of the epidemic is at its peak
— It seems that the peak of the infections is beyond us. It was more or less the holiday season, when these infections were the most numerous in Poland. Now, two weeks after this summit, we see a large number of people being admitted to Polish hospitals. We see this third wave peak when it comes to hospitals we have right now – he said on the First Program of Polish Radio Kraska, when asked about the prognosis of the epidemic situation.
The deputy minister pointed out that more and more patients suffering from COVID-19 in their health deteriorate in hospitals. – Poles did not come to hospitals during the holiday season. (…) I think that this week will still be quite a difficult week for Polish hospitals, there are more and more patients every day – he added.
Kraska said that patients sometimes self-medicate at home and go to the hospital several days too late.
– It is much easier to implement treatment in the period when the infection is just beginning. When more than half of the lung parenchyma is involved, there is definitely limited room for physicians to maneuver. That is why so many people go to intensive care units and, unfortunately, some percentage die, he said, referring to the large number of deaths.
He admitted that the pandemic made it difficult for many patients to contact doctors, some treatments and diagnostics were postponed, which unfortunately has health effects, such as delays in detecting neoplastic diseases.
– It will certainly affect the health of Poles, which is why we are already preparing post-pandemic projects at the ministry. (…) Making up for the health of Poles in the pandemic period will be a challenge – he added.
When asked about Tuesday’s data about incl. of new infections, Kraska said that exact data would be submitted as always at 10.30. He said that they would not differ from Monday’s.
– We always try to compare and observe the trends compared to the previous week. (…) I think that only tomorrow’s and Thursday’s results will be decisive for assessing where in the epidemic we are now – he added.
