Since the launch of the National Vaccine Program against COVID-19, a total of 7 cases have been recorded in Poland. 913 adverse vaccine reactions. The vast majority of complaints were mild. The others include cases of thrombosis and diseases related to blood clotting. Some people died after being vaccinated against COVID-19.

Undesirable reactions after vaccination in Poland. How many so far?
The first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine was administered in Poland on December 27, 2020. Since then, our country has been vaccinating the society, now with four preparations: Pfizer, Moderna (mRNA vaccines) and AstraZeneka and Johnson & Johnson (vector). The latter is given in one dose, the others require two injections.

Until May 13, a total of 14 million 705 thousand. 512 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. There are currently 4 million 30 thousand people fully vaccinated in Poland. 995. In 692 people, post-vaccination reactions were mild – it was, for example, redness, soreness at the injection site or hand swelling. The remaining 1 thous. 221 are serious or severe reactions from the body, including cases of thrombosis and death.
How many people in Poland died after being vaccinated against COVID-19?
Some Poles who have taken the COVID-19 vaccine die. Detailed information on the symptoms leading up to death can be found in the table, but for some vaccinated people the data is limited to stating that the patient has died. So far, a total of 19 people have died among those who have received the COVID-74 vaccine. They are mostly men (40). 34 women died after vaccination. There was only one death between 4 and 11 May, which is lower than in previous weeks.
Not all deaths following vaccination are actually related to the preparation. All deaths occurring shortly after an injection are listed in the table. These are also, for example, random events such as head injuries.
How many cases of thrombosis after vaccination for COVID-19 in Poland?
There have been cases of thrombosis worldwide after vaccination against COVID-19, so some countries have suspended the use of some preparations. And while the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said in April that the benefits of vaccines outweigh the risks, some countries’ authorities are not convinced. AstraZeneki is no longer vaccinated by Denmark (among others), and Johnson & Johnson has been halted in both Denmark and the US.

There have been a lot of thrombosis cases in the last week compared to previous periods. On April 15, a total of 14 thromboses were found in the total number of people vaccinated against COVID-19. A week later, on April 22, there were 19 cases (increase by 5), April 29 (increase by 29), and May 10 (increase by 6). By May 36, thrombosis had occurred in a total of 7 people (an increase of 11 cases in a week). In the past weeks, six more people developed a risk of thrombosis. As for gender, thrombosis (or suspected thrombosis) was more common in women – 48 cases (including 12 in the last week). In men, this is a total of 35 cases. Six people died with thrombosis or other clotting problems.
Among the post-vaccination reactions, there were also other diseases related to blood clotting. These are pulmonary embolism (4 men, one died and 8 women – including one suspected), arterial embolism (1 man and 1 woman), systemic embolism (1 woman), phlebitis (3 women), thrombocytopenia (4 men, including one with thrombosis and 3 women), clotting problems (1 woman, fatal), blood clots (1 man, fatal), swelling of blood vessels (1 woman), embolism ( in 1 woman), thrombotic changes (in 1 woman) and blood clots (in 1 woman).
Post-vaccination reactions in Poland – after which vaccines?
The table available on the gov.pl website lacks information on which preparations resulted in the reaction. Therefore, we asked the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate to provide more detailed data. From the responses, we learn how the adverse vaccine reactions were distributed for specific vaccines.
The distribution looks like this:
- A total of 3067 vaccine adverse events occurred following the Pfizer vaccine. 2461 was mild, 478 was serious, and 128 was severe
- There were 477 adverse vaccine reactions following the Moderna vaccine, of which 411 were mild, 58 were serious and 8 were severe
- A total of 3888 vaccine adverse events occurred following AstraZeneki. 3394 were mild, 451 were serious, and 43 were severe
- A total of 67 adverse vaccine reactions occurred following the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. 56 were mild, 9 were severe, and 2 were severe
