Montessori: specific games and toys for children

Montessori: toys and games for the little ones

Maria Montessori, Italian woman doctor, dedicated her life to children. In 1907, she created the Casa dei Bambini (Children’s House) in which she developed a pedagogy based on the observation of sick children. Quite quickly, she realizes that “The child is not a vessel that we fill but a spring that we let spring”. From there was born the Montessori pedagogy which one finds today in certain nurseries, gardens of awakening and nursery and primary schools. The material used is specific and responds to the basic principles of this philosophy: supporting the child in his development, letting him discover the world according to his needs, his rhythm and his personality.

The “Montessori workshops” range at Oxybul éveil & jeux was created in May 2015, with the help of Emmanuelle Opezzo, Montessori graduate educator. This experienced material consists of toys and games suitable for the youngest. They correspond to the different stages of the child’s development. Each activity incorporates one difficulty and only one. Moms can therefore very easily learn about this material at home thanks to the explanatory booklet supplied with the toys. They accompany their child in his discovery of objects, by being attentive to his sensitivity and his personality, without being over-stimulated. For older children, you can find Montessori toys at “Nature et Découvertes”, “Nathan” and “Djeco”. These are essentially puzzles or boxes to learn numbers or letters and picture books that help develop the vocabulary of the child.
