From 5 to 7 June, the final performances of the cult musical «Monte Cristo» will be held on the stage of the Operetta Theater.
The musical «Monte Cristo» is the first completely original Russian performance created on the basis of a world classic. The return of «Monte Cristo» in 2015 took place thanks to the persistent requests of the audience. “We found an opportunity to combine two large-scale projects on the stage of the Operetta Theater — the musicals Monte Cristo and Count Orlov,” say producers Vladimir Tartakovsky and Alexei Bolonin. — The decision to return the «Monte Cristo» caused a great stir. We know that even today the musical is highly anticipated in Moscow, it arouses great interest among the audience. We hope that Monte Cristo will become as iconic for new viewers as it has become for thousands of fans from all over the world.”
Grandiose transforming scenery will again appear on the stage, with the help of which the space turns into a ballroom, then into the Chateau d’If, then into the sails of a whole armada of smugglers’ ships. The costumes of actors and ballet dancers combine the spirit of the Dumas era and modern haute couture chic. Hundreds of meters of brocade, silk, velvet and a whole kilometer of colored ribbons were used to create them. The image of the XNUMXth century attire is complemented by a great variety of spectacular accessories: bracelets, belts, scarves, jewelry, gloves and masks.
“Very witty, very well thought out set design. The transformation of the scenery was wonderfully thought out — I am also an architect by education, so I can appreciate it, ”said director Vladimir Khotinenko.
The success of «Monte Cristo» on the Moscow stage has demonstrated that a Russian musical staged at the highest professional level can be competitive with world projects and even surpass them.
