There are an increasing number of countries where cases of monkey pox have been confirmed. Until now, it has only been present constantly in Africa, where it is considered an endemic disease. In recent years, it has been detected sporadically, and each disease has its source in a trip to the Black Continent. The current cases and spread of the virus are still a great unknown to scientists.
- Monkey pox was first detected in 1958 in macaques who came from Singapore to a Danish laboratory for polio vaccine research
- Monkey pox is a rare zoonotic viral infection that does not spread easily between people and has little to do with chicken pox. It is closer to smallpox, which was eradicated (eradicated) in the world 44 years ago
- It is caused by orthopocviruses that enter the body through damaged skin, respiratory tract or mucous membranes.
- The disease is usually mild. Most patients recover within a few weeks. It is fatal for one in 10 infected people

Monkey pox – what is this disease?
Monkey pox is a zoonotic, rare viral infection that does not spread readily from person to person. There must be close contact with the sick person. It is transmitted through body fluids such as saliva or blood, also through sexual intercourse.
It is a disease less contagious than, for example, chicken pox. It also has little to do with her. It is caused by orthopoxviruses.
It manifests itself with fever, pain in the muscles, headache, back pain, chills, fatigue. The lymph nodes become enlarged. Often times, within one to three days of the onset of a fever, a rash develops first on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body, including the hands and feet. Initially, they are spots that turn into lumps, vesicles, pustules, and crusts.
The disease lasts for two to four weeks and ends with complete recovery. It rarely gives complications.
