And sometimes it is painted quite brightly for a girl of this age.

Amy Lin is 25 years old and a single mother. Her daughter Bella May is two years old. It will be three soon. A charming little girl with curls, dimples on her cheeks and clear eyes sometimes looks like she’s shocking. The fact is that the girl has dyed hair, makeup and many tattoos. The latter, fortunately, are not real – they are just stickers.

Amy Lin is not at all against such experiments of her daughter with appearance. She herself is not averse to experimenting: she wears pink hair, a lot of tattoos on her body. Apparently, the girl simply copies her mother, because parents for any child are a role model and role model. But Amy Lin thinks it’s much more complicated.

“I grew up in the heyday of alternative culture: grunge, punk are very close to me. Having become a mother, I decided not to give up my preferences. In my opinion, you can bring up a free person if you give her freedom of style, ”explains the mother.

Lin believes that parents too often abuse their power by acting like dictators with children: they impose on them a model of behavior that they consider appropriate, trying to shape their image in accordance with their own ideas about beauty and about “how to do it right.” That is, the girl should look like a girl – dress, bows and shoes, and the boy should wear a short haircut and play cars. Well, everything else, especially tattoos, is a deviation from the norm, a manifestation of marginality.

“I just let Bella be me. She is not afraid of criticism, she is brave. She loves tattoos, at least for now. And she prefers to dye her hair the same color as her favorite markers, ”says Ann.

According to Ann, there is no need to wait until the child grows up to teach him how to make choices and be responsible for their consequences. And there is no need to bring your creativity to please the conservative traditions of upbringing. Better to let a child learn from an early age to understand that being an adult does not mean being boring, and one needs to know what he really needs to feel happy.

“I want to give Bella freedom of expression. Then she will not have to waste the time of her youth to understand what she really is. If she learns to express herself through her appearance, she will learn to talk about what is important to her. Freedom of speech, do you understand? She will not hesitate to talk about her feelings and aspirations, ”says Ann.

Interview

Would you allow your child to experiment with their appearance?

  • No. Still, these things need to be done at a conscious age.

  • The child should be a child, not a painted doll

  • The tattoos are not real, and the paint will wash off. Why not

  • If you like it, let it go. It does not harm health, and this is the main thing
