Mojito – 39 best cocktail recipes, composition and history

Greetings, dear friends! Today I want to share a selection of Mojito recipes, as everyone loves it. In the International Bar Association (IBA), Mojito is included in the long drink category. The Mojito recipe is varied, but it is sad that there are people in the world who do not know any of them.

I have a hipster friend, all in trend. Once he invited us with the peasants to the dacha. “I’ll make you a Mojito now,” he intrigued from the doorway, poured a glass of vodka into a glass of sprite and threw in a piece of fruit from those that were on the table.

It stands, looks and waits for us to drink and be stunned with happiness. We were shocked, to say the least. And it is not clear from what the shock was greater, either from vodka, or from fruits entirely floating in a faceted glass!

Without thinking twice, I took a bottle of white rum out of my bag, took a big sip, looked at my friend and … went off into the sunset in English. Do you know why? Because that’s not how mojitos are made! And what to expect from a person in the future, if he has not mastered a single Mojito recipe in his 30s? What then?!

Okay kidding! I stayed, of course, and even taught him how to cook the right recipe. I have rich experience in this. Today I will even share it with you. So, let’s start cooking Mojito at home.

Product composition and proportions

The main ingredient in the Mojito recipe is rum. According to the recommendations of the bartenders, one should not rush to make the best Mojito by adding expensive rum to it. Try the easy options first.

In almost all recipes, it is recommended to use white rum, which does not have a long exposure. It has a neutral taste and aroma. Long-aged drinks, on the other hand, have unique notes and, mixed with other components, can manifest themselves unexpectedly. White rum is unpretentious in this regard.

Another important ingredient in recipes is mint leaves. Ideally, it should be peppermint. Only the leaves are suitable for adding to the cocktail, not the stem, which has a bitter taste. In order not to interrupt the aroma of the rest of the ingredients, no more than 1-5 sprigs are added to 7 serving of Mojito.

Important: lemon mint is not suitable for a cocktail. Lemon or catnip is lemon balm, not mint at all.

Many people confuse lime and lemon. A lime is a citrus fruit with a green skin. It cannot be replaced with lemon or lemon juice. For Mojito recipes, only fruits with a strong skin are suitable. It should look shiny and elastic.

Juice from it, unfortunately, cannot be prepared for future use at home. Otherwise, the essential oils evaporate and the cocktail will not be as spectacular as in the bar.

Cocktail variations

There are many recipe options. Jamie Oliver’s classic recipe features white rum, sugar, soda, mint and lime. Unofficial versions of the drink involve the addition of exotic fruits, berries, chocolate and other less standard ingredients.

Some recipes replace light rum with gin, use lemon juice instead of lime juice, and add tonic and other drinks. The diet option involves adding filtered or mineral water instead of a sweet soda tonic.

If granulated sugar is pre-soaked with orange or strawberry juice, then the contour will turn out to be colored.
