Safer and more effective treatment of heart defects in children – especially the complicated ones – is possible thanks to modern angiography equipment, which has been enriched by the Upper Silesian Child Health Center in Katowice.
On Tuesday – on Children’s Day – a hemodynamics and interventional radiology laboratory with an apparatus for angiography, i.e. blood vessel imaging, was opened there.
Children will have access to the highest-class care for them, it will be possible not only to diagnose very complex and complicated congenital heart defects, but also to perform medical procedures, the head of the Department of Cardiology Prof. Lesław Szydlowski.
Under the control of the new apparatus, it will be possible to very precisely define the smallest intracardiac structures, see where the abnormalities are and then treat them. This is a leap into the XNUMXst century, it gives us a high position among the best centers for the treatment of congenital heart defects in children – he added.
The apparatus is used not only to examine the heart, but also the entire circulatory system. It can also be used in nephrology or neurosurgery.
The hospital’s spokeswoman Anna Kidawa informed that the cost of purchasing the equipment and adapting the rooms in which it is located amounted to over PLN 5 million. The investment in 80 percent financed by the Ministry of Health, the remainder was covered by the facility’s budget.
