Mirtor is a medicine used to treat depression. Taking it, however, is associated with a high risk. In some people, especially very young patients, it may trigger suicidal thoughts or attempts. The drug should be dosed very carefully. The patient’s behavior should be carefully monitored after each dose adjustment.

Depression is an increasingly popular problem. It applies to people of all ages. Treating depression is difficult. It requires great care and appropriate dose selection. So what is Mirtor and what precautions should you take?

Mirtor – indications

Mirtor is a medicine used to treat severe depression.

Mirtor – warehouse

The active ingredient of Mirap DisTab is mirtazapine (Mirtazapine). One tablet contains 45 mg of the ingredient. Among the auxiliary substances in one tablet we can find, among others 9 mg of aspartame.

Mirtor – contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug is a contraindication to the use of Mirap DisTab. The drug should not be used simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

Mirtor – side effects

Since depression is associated with various symptoms, it is first necessary to establish whether they are a symptom of depression or a consequence of administering Mirtor.

The most commonly reported side effects include drowsiness, relaxation, dry mouth, weight gain, increased appetite, dizziness and fatigue. There are also, inter alia, nausea, vomiting, tremors, lethargy, joint pain, or strange dreams.

Mirtor – dosage

The dosage of Mirap DisTab depends on your age:

  1. adults – they can take from 15 to 45 mg per day. The initial dose of the drug should not exceed 15 or 30 mg. The patient may not feel the change until 1-2 weeks. If the dose of Mirtor is well matched, the patient reacts positively after 2-4 weeks.
  2. The dose may be increased to the maximum if there is no response to treatment. No visible improvement in the patient within the next 2-4 weeks is an indication for complete discontinuation of the drug;
  3. elderly – the same dose as for adults. However, doses should be increased very carefully for the sake of patient safety;
  4. children and adolescents under 18 years of age – Mirap DisTab should not be used by people under 18 years of age. The drug is ineffective in them and its use is too risky.

The dose of Mirtor should be appropriately modified in people with renal and hepatic impairment.

Mirtor can be taken in one daily dose. The best time to take your medication is in the evening, before going to bed. If needed, Mirap DisTab can be given in two doses, divided into a smaller dose in the morning and a larger dose in the evening.

Mirtor is taken orally. This medicine should be taken quickly with water as it breaks down quickly. The treatment lasts min. 6 months until symptoms disappear completely. The drug should be discontinued gradually in order to reduce the risk of side effects due to abrupt discontinuation.

Mirtor – precautions

Mirap DisTab should not be used by people under 18 years of age. Administration of the drug may cause the person to develop thoughts of suicide and may even attempt suicide. Very young people also become very hostile. If, despite the risk, a decision is made to use Mirtor in people younger than 18 years of age, its behavior should be monitored more often. It is also worth noting the lack of data on the effects of long-term use of the drug on children and adolescents in terms of growth, maturation, and development of cognitive function and behavior.

Depression is often associated with suicidal ideation and suicide, and therefore patients showing these tendencies are at greater risk and will be monitored more closely during treatment with Mirap DisTab.

Patients should also be monitored during dose adjustments, especially at the beginning of treatment. The patient and his relatives should be sensitized and informed about the risk so that they do not miss any disturbing symptoms. If anything worries them, please inform your doctor immediately.

Due to the risk of suicide, it is important that the patient has a limited number of tablets.

The use of Mirtor is also associated with a higher risk of bone marrow suppression and the appearance of jaundice. When using Mirtor, sick people should also be careful:

  1. for epilepsy and with organic brain damage;
  2. with impaired liver and kidney function;
  3. for heart disease;
  4. with low blood pressure;
  5. for diabetes.

Studies do not show an increased risk of birth defects in children with the use of Mirtor. However, be careful and only administer Mirtor when absolutely necessary.

Before use, read the leaflet, which contains indications, contraindications, data on side effects and dosage as well as information on the use of the medicinal product, or consult your doctor or pharmacist, as each drug used improperly is a threat to your life or health.
