Mirena insert – application, purpose, price

The Mirena insert (Mirena coil) is a contraceptive known to most Polish women. The first Mirens appeared in Poland just after the war, when contraception became popular due to the cultural revolution. The aim of the countrymen was, above all, to rebuild the country, and in addition, the problem was great poverty. Polish women started to use the first spirals. Mirena is the oldest female contraceptive in the country.

Execution and purpose

A Mirena (Mirena coil) is inserted into the uterine cavity. It contains hormones that are released gradually to thicken the uterine mucus to prevent sperm from reaching it. Mirena blocks the way to fertilization safely. Its putting on and wearing it does not present any discomfort to women, although many infamous rumors are circulating around Mirena. In addition, Mirena interferes with a woman’s hormonal balance less because the hormones are released gradually, which is less of a shock to the body than in the case of the pill. It is also worth adding that hormones only go to the endometrium, and not to the entire body, as is the case with oral contraceptives.

Applying

The insert is placed with a special applicator. It has two threads, which are cut when inserted so that they do not stick out. Mirena looks like the letter T, thanks to which the application is very simple, because this is exactly the shape of a woman’s reproductive organs. This makes not only the application of the insole, but also wearing it, is not difficult for a woman. The application is made during menstruation, because then the doctor knows that his patient is not expecting a baby, and the walls of the uterus are properly slippery and moisturized.

Action

The IUD primarily has a “discouraging” effect on sperm. Thick mucus weakens them and slows them down, making them unable to reach the egg and fertilize it. The hormone that is released makes the sperm weak. They feel as if the woman is having her period (the mucus is similar in texture). Mirena may therefore require the use of lubricants during intercourse, especially in the early stages. Female mucus is different, similar to mucus in the pre-term period or during pregnancy, which can cause – especially in the first weeks of use – burning, discomfort during intercourse. That is why lubricants are recommended. Their composition does not in any way affect the operation and effectiveness of Mirena.

Mirena IUD – price

The insert can be purchased at a pharmacy at a price from PLN 50 to PLN 299, but the application itself is an expensive procedure, because – depending on the office – the price of the application varies from PLN 200 to PLN 700. It is worth adding, however, that this is a long-term investment, as the insert lasts for 2–7 years. At Medonet Market, you can now buy an intrauterine device tailored to your needs.
