Mindful eating is the new fashion trend that more and more people are following, and it is not about a diet, but rather the opposite.
Therefore, we want to dedicate a post to explain what is this new trend and how can you lose weight following some guidelines that we will give you below. Do not miss it!
What is mindful eating and why is it so fashionable?
Before explaining what they are, we want you to answer the following question: Is it possible that most of the time that you put something in your mouth during the day, you do it guided by stimuli such as television or stress?
Probably your answer is that it is so, and it is that, nowadays, television, stress, commercials or advertising are some of the main responsible for the “meals” between meals. And this is not anywhere near positive, and this is where this new trend arises that we explain below:
Mindful eating consists of following a lifestyle (NOT a diet) in which the person is fully aware of their physiological and emotional sensations regarding food.
In other words, it consists of controlling your mind to learn to differentiate between times when you are fed out of necessity and times when you are satiated and yet you eat for reasons unrelated to your well-being.
Why Mindful Eating is NOT a Diet
A diet is based on controlling the amount and type of food that a person eats. It may be recommended for certain situations, for example, for medical reasons, but it generally has a start date and an end date.
However, Mindful eating is about adopting a healthy lifestyle, in which it is not about eliminating or reducing certain foods for a certain time, but rather about being fully aware of your diet and well-being. In addition, this trend is often accompanied by emotional well-being.
How to become fully aware
This is accomplished through mindfulness, which takes time and requires patience. However, some of the main tips and practices to follow, in addition to practicing mindfulness, are:
- Drink water before eating: a glass of water before each meal helps reduce anxiety by increasing the feeling of satiety.
- Eat sitting down and in a quiet place: focus on your diet, instead of television or mobile and eat only what you need. Noisy places tend to cause us to eat excessively and badly.
- Do not eat if you are not hungry: We usually eat by schedule and inertia, whether we are hungry or not. However, we point out that, although this is a premise of mindful eating, if you get enough sleep and exercise, you will rarely not have the necessary appetite.
- Chew slowly– You’ve probably heard this hundreds of times, and it allows both savoring food and facilitating digestion.
- Eat everything: this is another of the premises of any healthy lifestyle habit.
- Do not stay with the feeling of having a full stomach: It is not necessary to get to this point, because the healthiest thing is to be satisfied without reaching to feel full.
- Eat quietly: do not be in a hurry, because when you do, you usually eat more than necessary.
Of course, this is only a small part of the vast amount of information that you can find regarding Mindful eating, however, it is perfect for you to know what it is about, and now it will be your decision to go deeper or not into this style of life.
