Warm weather in Abkhazia has led to the premature rapid flowering of mimosa, the flowers of which are traditionally exported to Russia for the 8 March holiday.
“The traditional Abkhaz mimosa is unlikely to please Russian women this year for the holiday of March 8,” says Batal Avidzba, head of the customs clearance and customs control department of the State Customs Committee of Abkhazia. By this day, the mimosa has already faded. Significant shipments of yellow mimosa entered the Russian markets every year in early March. In 2008, due to severe frost, mimosa froze. Private entrepreneurs were able to take out only 6 tons of flowers. In 2007, 300-320 tons were removed from Abkhazia.
This year, the maximum air temperature in February of +20 – + 22 ° С led to the flowering of not only mimosa, but also fruit trees, which causes concern for Abkhaz gardeners.
