The watery milky milky (Lactarius serifluus) is a fungus from the Russula family, belonging to the genus Milky.
External description of the fungus
Milky milky milky (Lactarius serifluus) in immature form has a flat cap of small size, in the central part of which a slight bulge is noticeable. As the fruiting body of the fungus matures and ages, the shape of its cap changes significantly. In old mushrooms, the edges of the cap become uneven, curving like waves. In its central part, a funnel with a diameter of about 5-6 cm is formed. The surface of the cap of this type of mushroom is characterized by ideal evenness and smoothness, and dryness (which distinguishes it from many other varieties of the Mlechnikov genus). The upper part of the mushroom is characterized by a brown-red color, but as you move away from the center to the edges, the color becomes less saturated, gradually turning into white.
On the inside of the cap is a lamellar hymenophore. Its spore-bearing plates are yellowish or yellowish-buffy, very thin, descending down the stem.
The stem of the mushroom has a rounded shape, is 1 cm wide and about 6 cm high. The matte surface of the stem is perfectly smooth and dry to the touch. In young mushrooms, the color of the stem is yellow-brown, and in ripe fruiting bodies it turns into red-brown.
Mushroom pulp is characterized by fragility, brown-red in color. The spore powder is characterized by a yellowish color, and the smallest particles included in its composition have an ornamental surface and an ellipsoidal shape.
Habitat and fruiting period
Milky milky milky grows singly or in small groups, mainly in broad-leaved and mixed forests. Its active fruiting begins in August and continues throughout September. The yield of this variety of mushrooms directly depends on the weather that has been established in the summer. If at this time the level of heat and moisture was optimal for the development of mushroom fruiting bodies, then the yield of mushrooms will be plentiful, especially in the middle of the first autumn month.
Edibility
Milky milky (Lactarius serifluus) is a conditionally edible mushroom that is eaten exclusively in salty form. Many experienced mushroom pickers deliberately ignore this variety of mushrooms, since watery-milky milky ones have low nutritional value and poor taste. This species differs from other representatives of the Mlechnikov genus, perhaps, by a faint fruity smell. Before salting, the watery-milky milky is usually boiled well, or soaked for a long time in salty and cool water. This procedure helps to get rid of the unpleasant bitter taste created by the milky juice of the fungus. This mushroom itself is rare, and its flesh does not have a high nutritional quality and unique taste.
Similar species, distinctive features from them
The milky milky (Lactarius serifluus) has no similar species. Outwardly, it is unremarkable, similar in appearance to an inedible mushroom.
