Surveys conducted among almost 10 thousand. volunteers indicated that memory impairment may persist for up to eight months after undergoing a relatively mild form of COVID-19. This is accompanied by a general deterioration in health.
Consequences of COVID-19
COVID-19 affects not only the respiratory system. As is already known, this disease may suffer, among others, from also the nervous system and its symptoms can be part of long-term ailments – the so-called PASC (character sequelae of SARS-CoV-2).
Scientists from the University of Oslo conducted a study of almost 10. volunteers to check their memory status shortly after contracting COVID-19 and eight months later.
None of the participants had a form of illness that would require a hospital stay.
The analysis also considered a variety of additional factors, such as demographics, other medical conditions, and health-related quality of life.
72 people out of 651 (11%) who had coronavirus infection reported memory problems.
Among people who had an infection, the risk of memory impairment was 4,66 times higher than in the group of randomly selected people.
Moreover, 267 out of 649 (41%) people reported deterioration of health after suffering from the disease. 12 percent she also had trouble concentrating.
82 percent those who suffered from memory disorders reported worse health.
Scientists note some limitations of the study. One of the most important was that the analysis was based on questions about subjective feelings about memory, not on objective tests.
- Do you have memory problems? Take care of her now. We recommend Immortality – a mixture of herbs supporting the work of the brain.
Our results suggest that SARS-CoV-2 can negatively affect memory for up to eight months after mild illness, and that this could be associated with health deterioration and PASC. These results should stimulate rethinking the thesis that COVID-19 may be a mild disease. They also challenge the question of whether current home treatment strategies are optimal in terms of long-term outcomes. Our results indicate that memory problems may be part of PASC, but more reliable conclusions require longer observation, the researchers write in their work.
