Microphlebectomy is an operation that removes varicose veins.
It was developed by the famous Swiss surgeon Muller, who worked on the correction of venous outflow. Years later, the operation was improved by the famous phlebologists Oshem and Varadi.
The microphlebectomy procedure is not easy, therefore it requires skill and highly specialized qualifications. Such an operation is performed through special holes – punctures in the patient’s skin. It is minimally invasive, so it is performed with minimal anesthesia. With the help of special tools, hooks and clips, the doctor pulls out the varicose vein.
The effectiveness of the procedure is increased by the presence of several surgical instruments for the operation. Thanks to microphlebectomy, it is possible to remove veins with a diameter of more than 1 cm. It is used both in combination and as an independent procedure.
The process of microphlebectomy
A disease such as varicose veins cannot be removed by conservative methods. In the early stages of the development of the disease, the disease can still be eliminated by medication. In advanced cases, the most effective way is surgery.
In order to perform the operation, the phlebologist marks the operating field and marks the puncture sites. Further, he makes a puncture or micro-incision, the diameter of which does not exceed 2 mm. This is quite enough to pull out a vein. It is crossed with a special clip, wound, and then removed. In subsequent punctures, a similar manipulation is repeated. The procedure lasts no more than two hours.
Local anesthesia is used for the operation. A plaster and a special compression fabric are applied to the place where the doctor made the puncture. The procedure has a cosmetic aspect: the incisions do not require suturing, therefore, they do not leave marks during healing.
Treatment of varicose veins in most cases does not require hospitalization. Doctors are allowed to do the same things even the next day. The procedure itself is not particularly painful, but its only drawback is that after microphlebectomy, a small hematoma remains, which disappears after 2-3 weeks. In addition, hyperpigmentation of the skin is noted. This rarely happens and, as practice shows, disappears after 3 months.
Indications for microphlebectomy
Microphlebectomy is the most effective procedure in the fight against varicose veins, as it almost immediately gives positive results. The most common indications for the procedure are:
- varicose veins with a diameter of more than 1 cm;
- large knots of varicose veins;
- violation of blood circulation;
- thrombophlebitis in acute form;
- transferred thrombophlebitis of the main subcutaneous trunks;
- recanalization of vein trunks.
Unhealthy veins are removed in a minimally invasive way. This option is most preferable for those patients who are not suitable for medical treatment.
Contraindications for microphlebectomy
Microphlebectomy can be performed for people of any age and with various health conditions. This type of treatment does not have many disadvantages. However, there are exceptions to the rule that should not be ignored. For example, the procedure cannot be carried out if:
- pregnancy;
- infectious diseases;
- the presence of pathologies on the skin;
- hypertension, coronary heart disease, bronchial asthma and a number of other diseases that are associated with the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems.
If microphlebectomy is not suitable for the patient for a number of reasons, the phlebologist may advise him to replace it with crossectomy or sclerotherapy.
Rehabilitation period
After microphlebectomy, the patient can immediately go home. If the doctor sees contraindications to return in the form of changes in the patient’s condition, then he will have to be observed in the hospital for some more time, but not more than a week.
After anesthesia, a person, as a rule, comes to his senses in a few hours. During this time, sensitivity returns to him completely.
In addition, he can actively move without experiencing acute pain. Analgesics after the procedure are not needed. The most important thing for the patient during the rehabilitation period is a special compression bandage made of knitwear, which must be worn for several weeks. The exact time of use, depending on the condition of the patient, is determined by the attending physician. The doctor also attributes proper nutrition and an active lifestyle so that varicose veins do not affect the remaining veins.
Benefits of microphlebectomy
The main and main advantage of such an operation as microphlebectomy is that the affected vein is completely removed and no longer bothers the person in the future. Such veins can be removed on the face, hands, feet and other places. In addition, the microphlebectomy procedure is safe and less traumatic, so it does not cause complications.
An important aspect is the cosmetic appearance, because scars and stitches heal very quickly, leaving no serious marks behind. Also, this type of treatment allows you to return to your normal life in a short time and not linger within the walls of a medical institution.
Microphlebectomy is a lifeline for people with advanced varicose veins. The operation does not take much time, is practically painless, which allows to shorten the rehabilitation period.
