Migraine is an extremely distressing neurological disease. Migraine pain is so intense and so stabbing that it is difficult to function normally. It can last from 4 to 72 hours. Treating migraines continues to be an extraordinary challenge for doctors. However, pharmacies offer medications for migraines – both prescription and over-the-counter.
Migraine medications – where does the disease come from?
Migraine is a very troublesome condition. It is a chronic disease with an extremely severe headache. So far, doctors do not know where it comes from, but they suspect that it is related to the functioning of ion channel receptors in brain cells. Migraines are very often accompanied by nausea, vomiting and photophobia. Pain usually begins unilaterally, in the area of the forehead or orbit. The following types of migraine can be distinguished:
- ocular,
- with aura,
- temporary,
- paralytic and
- migraine state.
Prescription migraine medications
Migraine medications are primarily triptans. This is a new generation of drugs that are used to relieve individual migraine attacks.
When prescribing medications for migraines, the doctor adjusts them individually to each patient. Prescription migraine medications are opioids that are used to treat very severe migraine headaches. Doctors also decide whether or not to prescribe preventive medications for migraine headache sufferers. These are most often antiepileptic tablets, beta-blockers, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Their main task is to reduce the frequency of migraine attacks and make the symptoms a bit milder and less aggressive. If you want to take such drugs, you should visit a doctor who, after an interview and tests – if necessary, will prescribe the most appropriate measures, which should be used in accordance with the doctor’s instructions. These are powerful drugs with intense and concentrated action, so overdosing them can end very tragically.
Over-the-counter migraine medications
A lot of such drugs are available in pharmacies. They are very diverse. These include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, acetaminophen and other painkillers that can reduce pain. It is not possible to cure a migraine completely. It is treated on an ad hoc basis with painkillers or with appropriate prescription migraine medications. In this way, you can reduce the frequency of its appearance. Over-the-counter drugs are available in the company of tablets, capsules, sachets and effervescent tablets. These preparations most often contain tolfenamic acid, acetylsalicylic acid, paracetamol, caffeine and ibuprofen. Depending on your preferences and preferences, you can choose the drug that best meets your expectations and brings any results.
In the case of migraine headaches, try the effects of the Maruna pyrethrum herb.
Medicines for migraine in pregnancy
Pregnant women struggling with migraine headaches unfortunately have to cope in a different way because they cannot take this type of medication. In such cases, it is recommended to take walks in the fresh air, rest. Massage of the head, neck and nape also brings very good results. Cold compresses on the forehead and soaking feet in a bowl of warm water can also help.
