Miflonide is an inhaled glucocorticoid drug with a strong local anti-inflammatory effect. It is available as an inhalation powder. Systematic use of the drug reduces chronic inflammation in the lungs in people with asthma. The preparation, given to patients who require treatment with corticosteroids, enables asthma control after 10 days from the start of treatment. Miflonide improves lung function and relieves asthma symptoms, reduces bronchial hyperreactivity and prevents asthma exacerbations. Budesonide, which enters the lungs, is rapidly and completely absorbed, thus reaching the maximum plasma concentration immediately after administration. It has a low systemic effect.

Miflonide – dosage and indications

Adults:

  1. mild asthma initially 200 micrograms once a day; typically 200-400 micrograms twice daily;
  2. for an exacerbation of up to 1600 micrograms / day given in 2-4 divided doses (for example 400 micrograms four times a day),
  3. there are no data on the safety and efficacy of the preparation in elderly patients (over 65 years of age).
  4. mild asthma initially 200 micrograms once a day; typically 200 micrograms twice daily; up to 800 micrograms a day,
  5. there are no data on the safety and effectiveness of the preparation in children under 6 years of age and it should not be used in this age group.

Miflonide – contraindications

The drug should not be used if you are allergic to any component of the preparation, during active tuberculosis and if you suffer from shortness of breath. Consult a physician prior to use if pregnant or breastfeeding.

Miflonide – warnings

  1. Slight throat irritation. Oral and laryngeal mycosis may occur. It is recommended to rinse the mouth thoroughly with water after each use.
  2. Hoarseness may occur which is reversible and resolves when the dose is reduced or treatment is discontinued.

Miflonide – side effects

Possible side effects while taking the drug: cough, symptoms of the general effects of corticosteroids, nervousness, irritability, restlessness, psychotic disorders, skin atrophy, itching, erythema and easy bruising, oropharyngeal candidiasis, hoarseness. For rare side effects Miflonide include: hypersensitivity reactions and anaphylactic reactions. Irritation of the respiratory tract, coughing, dry mouth, and sudden and severe bronchospasm causing difficulty in breathing. In addition, possible sleep disorders, depression, behavioral changes (mainly in children), increased psychomotor activity, anxiety, aggression, anxiety, depression, behavioral changes (mainly in children) and contact dermatitis.
