Microwave heats dishes, not food: reasons for what to do

BytTechService » microwave » Why the microwave heats dishes, not food, plates get very hot

A microwave heats dishes only in one case – if it is not suitable for this technique. The magnetron, which emits microwaves, causes the food to heat up, and heat is transferred from them to the plates.

What is heated – food or dishes

The specificity of microwaves is such that they act exclusively on water molecules. Therefore, only products containing H2O are placed in the oven, if it is negligible, a glass of water is placed in the chamber. In normal mode, the dishes do not heat up. Microwaves, bombarding H2O molecules, cause their chaotic acceleration – the food is evenly heated. The dishes are simply transferred from the food part of the heat, so it becomes hot.

If, after putting cold soup or meatballs on the stove, you find that the microwave oven heats the plate very much, and not the food, do not panic. Do you think the microwave is broken? It’s all about the dishes. If you carefully study the instructions, you can find tips and recommendations for choosing containers for microwave ovens. There are even special utensils for sale – if you have a microwave, buy yourself a few appliances to heat up and cook food in it without any problems.

Why is she hot

Processes are going on in the chamber that are completely different from the usual food processing. Instead of heat, there are microwaves acting selectively. As mentioned above, only water molecules are their object. If you put oil in the oven, it will not heat up. Food that is stale can be dangerous to eat, as with such a high processing rate, there is a high chance that many microbes will survive.

If you notice that the stove has become difficult to heat food, it is quite possible that you are using the wrong utensils. It is forbidden to put containers in the chamber:

  • made of metal;
  • containing metal;
  • having even a slight metallized coating.

The nuances of the utensil issue

You can’t put everything you want in a microwave oven. You need to either buy special dishes, or be sure to test plates and bowls for “tolerance” to microwaves. How it’s done? You need to put the object under test in the chamber, next to a cup of water and turn on the device. If the container does not heat up within a minute, it is suitable for further use in the microwave. When testing, you need to turn on the maximum power.

The market is full of Chinese containers positioned as special containers for microwave ovens. Such products should be treated with extreme caution – they often do not live up to expectations.

Good to know: sparks can also be observed with high-quality cymbals. Why? Probably, in their composition there is a small proportion of metal particles, which provoke the “fireworks”. You should not use such plates, sparking is an unfavorable process that can lead to malfunctions.

What materials are prohibited

It is strictly not recommended to put in the microwave oven chamber:

  • metal plates;
  • thin glass and porcelain containers, especially with gilding (gold paint);
  • crystal objects – they can have different wall thicknesses and defects;
  • ceramics not covered with glaze;
  • fusible plastic;
  • disposable tableware;
  • aluminum molds for baking.

Which material is better

Glass is considered the most suitable material for cooking in microwave ovens. Almost without heating, it allows you to easily remove food from the chamber. But not all glass is suitable: you can not use thin glass or crystal, as they will certainly crack under the influence of microwaves.

Thick-walled plates made of:

  • earthenware;
  • ceramics;
  • porcelain.

The choice of dishes is an important point for the successful operation of microwave ovens. The use of unsuitable containers will sooner or later damage the device. Be careful when choosing utensils, and there will be no risk of burning your hands.
