Miconazole VP – indications, dosage, contraindications, interactions, side effects

Miconazole VP is used in fungal and fungal-bacterial skin infections, tinea versicolor and onychomycosis. The preparation is a derivative of imidazole, which has a wide antifungal spectrum. The topical application of the drug is only slightly absorbed through the skin and is metabolized in the liver. The drug is a topical cream and is available over the counter in pharmacies.

Miconazole VP – indications and dosage

Miconazole VP is recommended in fungal and fungal-bacterial skin infections:

  1. head,
  2. chin,
  3. torso,
  4. hand,
  5. groin,
  6. interdigital spaces of the feet and nails, including tinea versicolor and erythematous as well as blemishes with fungal and bacterial superinfection.

Dosage

  1. Skin mycosis. Adults. 2 × / d apply to the affected skin so as to completely cover the lesions, rub gently until completely absorbed.
  2. Pityriasis versicolor. Adults. 1 × / d, on the affected skin.
  3. Nail fungus. Adults. 1 × / d on the affected skin, cover with an occlusive dressing. The treatment lasts for 2-6 weeks, it should be continued for about 10 days after the symptoms have disappeared.

Miconazole VP and contraindications

A contraindication to the use of Mikonazol VP is hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.

Miconazole VP – warnings

  1. Contact of Mikonazol VP with the eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided.
  2. In the event of irritation at the site of application, treatment should be discontinued.
  3. Apply a small amount of cream to chafed areas to avoid skin maceration.
  4. The use of Mikonazol VP in pregnant women only after consulting a doctor and only if absolutely necessary.
  5. Due to the content of cetostearyl alcohol and propylene glycol, Miconazol VP may cause local skin reaction and skin irritation.
  6. There are no data on the excretion of miconazole topically applied to the skin in human milk.

Miconazole VP – interactions

There are no known interactions of Miconazole VP with other preparations.

Miconazole VP – side effects

During the use of Mikonazol VP, the following may occur:

  1. reddening,
  2. skin irritation,
  3. skin maceration,
  4. contact dermatitis.
