Nostradamus: biography
There is only modest information about the life of the famous predictor. His real name is Michel de Nostrdam. (Latinized – Nostradamus). He was born on December 14, 1503 in the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, into a Jewish family that converted to Catholicism. His father was a notary.
After studying philology in Avignon, then medicine at the University of Montpellier, in 1534 Michel was awarded his doctorate. He, as a physician and pharmacist, traveled throughout France in an attempt to eradicate the plague.
Like all Renaissance doctors, he was a polymath, writing in Latin and Greek and practicing astrology.

The astrologer has been married twice. In 1537 his first wife and children died of the plague. Ten years later, he married a second time, and six children were born from this marriage.

Nostradamus and astrology
This doctor-traveler has preserved for posterity the image of a “prophet”, whom some regard as a dreamer, while others – a deceiver. Michel began to take an interest in astrology in 1547.
In 1550 he compiled his first “almanac”. This is a collection of astrological predictions for the year, including a calendar and other information.
In 1555 – publishes “Prophecies”, a work that will make him famous among posterity. His fame is such that he becomes the physician and official astrologer of Queen Catherine de ‘Medici.
Prophecies of Nostradamus
The first edition of this unique work dates back to 1555. This book is divided into Centuries, that is, into several collections of one hundred quatrains. With its enigmatic style (a mixture of French, Latin, Provencal and Greek) and the clever references that fill the text, the Prophecies have kept their secret for centuries.
They gave rise to the publication of about ten thousand works trying to interpret them. In addition, several incorrect predictions have been attributed to the astrologer, namely the mass murder of St. Bartholomew’s Night.
