Mezoroller

The mesoscooter has become a popular beauty gadget, with which you can fight wrinkles and post-acne marks without any special expenses and special skills. At least, he gained such fame on the Internet. Let’s check how this corresponds to reality.

What is a mesoscooter

A mesoscooter (dermaroller) is a device that is a roller equipped with thin needles of the same length. When the roller is rolled over the skin, the needles make multiple micro-punctures. Initially, this perforating device was used exclusively by dermatologists and plastic surgeons for a procedure aimed at correcting such specific and difficult to correct aesthetic deficiencies as:

  • scarring;

  • stretch marks.

That is, the roller was used on areas of the skin where, for various reasons, replacement scar tissue was formed, which lies quite deeply. Due to its design, the dermaroller damages the skin at a predetermined depth, triggering the production of new collagen, which results in smoothing of scars and smoothing of the skin surface.

The mesoscooter (dermaroller) is a rotating roller with needles.

By the way, the dermaroller, along with the fractional laser (which, in a certain sense, operates on the same principle), is currently considered the most effective and relatively painless way to deal with retracted post-acne scars.

A big plus of the technique is a relatively short rehabilitation period, because the epidermis is not completely destroyed, as with peelings and dermabrasion, but is damaged fractionally, that is, partially: intact tissue is preserved between micro-punctures, due to which the regeneration of the skin takes place quickly, without undesirable effects and complications.

Mechanism of action

To date, the dermaroller has been widely used both in professional practice and in home care. This device acquired its second name (mesoscooter) relatively recently, when it began to be used in conjunction with preparations for fractional mesotherapy. They are better absorbed by the skin due to micro-punctures, which serve as a kind of transport routes for the delivery of active ingredients to the deeper layers of the skin.

However, the main merit of this invention is the stimulation of cell division, the synthesis of collagen and growth factors, as well as the formation of new vessels and capillaries, plus the production of hyaluronic acid, that is, a fundamental renewal of the key components of the skin responsible for its quality.

Indications for use

Since the use of the mesoscooter has a stimulating and renewing effect on cells, the technique has an impressive list of indications:

  • wrinkles;

  • uneven skin texture;

  • гиперпигментация;

  • thinning and hair loss (alopecia);

  • stretch marks;

  • scars of different origin.

As for cellulite, the mesoscooter is not an assistant here – it does not have any effect on body fat, but it can tighten and tighten the skin on the thighs at the last stage of anti-cellulite therapy.

Противопоказания

One of the main advantages of the mesoscooter is ease of use, but you need to clearly understand the difference between professional and home appliances. We will focus on this point below. In the meantime, we list the obvious contraindications:

  • exacerbation of herpes;

  • inflammatory elements (acne);

  • in individual cases – rosacea and rosacea;

  • warts in the area of application;

  • eczema and psoriasis;

  • taking anticoagulants;

  • tendency to form keloid scars.

With inept use, the mesoscooter can cause problems.

In addition, there are risks associated with damage to the skin barrier, which can adversely affect:

  • weakened skin – poor healing;

  • dehydrated and dry skin – tightness and peeling;

  • problematic skin – provocation of rashes;

  • sensitive skin – exacerbation of discomfort and redness.

Needle Options

The size of the roller, the number and length of the needles vary depending on the purpose of the dermaroller, the treated area and the individual characteristics of the skin.

Length

The longer the needles, the deeper the damage to the skin, the more painful the procedure and the longer the interval between sessions.

  • Needles of 0,3–1 mm are used for the skin of the face and head.

  • For the area of the eyelids, hands and with thin skin of the face – 0,5 mm.

  • For the correction of scars on the face, long needles of 1,5 mm are suitable.

  • On the body – 2 mm.

For mesoscooters for home use, the needle length is 0,15–0,5 mm.

Sharpening method

More often for dermarollers, a laser sharpening method is used, which is significantly superior to instrumental sharpening, since the needles injure the skin less during the procedure.

Number of needles and roller width

The gold standard of a professional facial mesoscooter:

  • handle length 12 cm;

  • roller width and diameter 2 cm;

  • 192 needles.

However, there are different variations. For example, in the device for the skin around the eyes, there are only three rows and 180 needles. The body dermaroller has a wider drum with 1000 to 12 microneedles.

Alloy

The needles are made from titanium or surgical steel. If you choose, then the second option is less preferable, since steel is a softer and less durable material: the needles become dull and oxidize faster. Gold-plated mesoscooters are also produced to increase antiseptic performance. But this does not affect the strength and shelf life of the needle.

The quality of the mesoscooter depends on the metal from which the needles are made.

Lifetime

A professional cosmetologist can change the needles on the mesoscooter several times during one procedure, as they lose their sharpness and act less accurately and clearly, causing unnecessary injuries.

Homemade dermarollers with minimal damaging effects are designed for 6-8 treatments.

Types of dermarollers

Strictly speaking, even with the thinnest and rarest needles, a dermaroller is a device for professional use. However, beauty users actively practice microneedling at home.

Professional

There are many modifications and varieties of mesoscooters for professional use, which differ in all parameters, from the alloy to the diameter of the needles, their number on the drum and its size. To correct post-acne scars, long needles up to 2 mm are used, and the skin is processed to bloody dew. Requires pre-anesthetic cream.

At the same time, the mesotherapy procedure with the participation of a mesoscooter is much less painful, bloodless and does not require painkillers.

For fractional mesotherapy, special preparations with low molecular weight ingredients are used.

Home

For home use, it is recommended to choose a dermaroller model with short needles up to 0,5 mm, which minimally injure the skin (not to blood). Anesthesia is not required in this case.

Recently, a new type of mesoscooter has appeared – dermapen or dermashtamp. This is a mains-operated apparatus, which, unlike a roller, does not roll needles over the skin, but plunges them into the epidermis strictly vertically. This method is much less traumatic. The depth of the puncture can be adjusted. The kit includes disposable sterile nozzles – disinfection is not required.

Is it possible to use a mesoscooter at home?

You can, but you should not treat the dermaroller as a toy or a massager. With inept handling, there is a high risk of injuring the skin, as well as infecting, which will lead to inflammation. You also need to understand that the use of the device at home and in a beauty parlor is not comparable in effect, since professional dermarollers are responsible for deeper damage with a brighter effect.

In the absence of contraindications and proper use in compliance with safety regulations, a home mesoscooter:

  • improves blood circulation;

  • stimulates cell renewal and metabolic processes;

  • increases the effectiveness of cosmetic care.

As a result of application, the skin becomes smoother, toned, radiant. To solve more serious cosmetic problems with the help of a dermaroller, you will have to contact a beautician.

Safety measures

When using the device, it is extremely important to follow a few rules.

  1. Disinfect the device thoroughly before and after use. It is better to purchase models that are supplied in sterile tubes.

  2. Do not use professional appliances at home.

  3. Do not use an expired mesoscooter – dull needles will not perform their function, and they can cause harm.

The effectiveness of the mesoscooter: the opinion of cosmetologists

Dermatovenereologist and anti-age medicine specialist Alexandra Altaeva expresses her opinion on the independent use of the dermaroller:

“I do not recommend my patients to use the mesoscooter at home. If the skin is damaged outside the treatment room, a priori, there is a greater risk of secondary infection.

Insufficient processing of hands and face in the pre-procedural period, the lack of sterile conditions can lead to the development of suppuration, scarring and hyperpigmentation. Also, the question arises about the sterilization of the mesoscooter after use and its subsequent storage at home.

How the mesoscooter is used in the cabin

If the procedure is aimed at a correction that requires deep penetration, an anesthetic cream is first applied to the skin, which is washed off after 20 minutes. How is the procedure?

  1. The area is treated with an antiseptic.

  2. Apply a drug with a light texture – gel or serum.

  3. The mesoscooter is rolled over the selected area seven times in horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions. Microbleeding appears at the puncture sites.

  4. After the procedure, the skin is again treated with an antiseptic.

To achieve a visible effect, you will need 4-6 procedures with an interval of 2-6 weeks.

Concentrates and meso-cocktails

The specificity of drugs produced specifically for fractional mesotherapy is that they consist only of low molecular weight components in order to better penetrate the skin. The most famous example is fragmented hyaluronic acid, which in this case improves tissue regeneration.

For the scalp, a meso-cocktail with amino acids, peptides and vitamins is used.

Skin care after mesoscooter procedures

Depending on the depth of damage after the procedure, redness and swelling may be observed on the face. Full rehabilitation can take from several days to a couple of weeks. Since the skin has received microdamages, sun protection is especially important. How to care for the skin after a professional procedure, the beautician will tell. If we talk about a home mesoscooter, pay attention to products for sensitive skin. And remember to protect yourself from the sun in any weather.
