Method to test the quality of virgin and extra virgin oils

From this initiative, a common management body will be in charge of coordinating the different existing research projects, which will be in charge of finding a technology that allows complementing the community analytical method, also called panel test, about the organoleptic quality of virgin olive oils and extra virgin.

This new initiative is launched thanks to a Scientific-technical collaboration agreement signed between Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía and the Interprofessional del Aceita de Oliva to find a complementary method that results in the improvement of the results obtained by the tasters and helps to reduce the concern expressed by this sector.

The collaboration between these three institutions was carried out within the framework of the Agreement for the assessment and improvement of the quality of olive oil, promotion and information by the consumer, which includes a selection of projects, in addition to the design of the intake protocol. of samples to be analyzed by the different research groups.

Functions

The Ministry will provide samples taken in bulk by the Food Information and Control Agency In the different points of origin of production, it will also participate in the performance of physicochemical and organoleptic analyzes through its Agrifood Arbitration Laboratory. On the other hand the Autonomous Community of Andalusia will provide samples obtained during official controls, which are carried out during the term of this Agreement. Finally, the Olive Oil Interprofessional will provide genuine samples of extra quality virgin olive oil of different degrees of maturity, in order to provide reference materials to the different research groups.

El German, in force until December 31, 2015, also contemplates the constitution of a Monitoring Commission, made up of representatives of the signatory institutions, which will be in charge of periodically reviewing the execution of the programmed actions, studying the results obtained and issuing the corresponding reports .
