Metatarsal and toe fractures – what is the treatment?

In fractures of this location there is pain in the foot, swelling, and often blue fingers. Pain worsens when trying to move your fingers.

Non-displaced fractures are treated conservatively by immobilization in a plaster dressing, displaced fractures, intra-articular and avulsive, require surgical treatment.

In the fractures of the toe bones, a plaster tile dressing is used conservatively, with the exception of dislocated toe fractures, which are treated surgically.
