When is it customary to celebrate a holiday

Metallurgist’s Day in Our Country is celebrated every year in July, on the third Sunday of the month. In 2022 it July 17.

history of the holiday

Metallurgists made a huge contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War by building tanks and producing weapons. This was even noted by the author of the famous song “Victory Day” Vladimir Kharitonov (remember the lines about open-hearth furnaces?). Their role was no less significant in the subsequent restoration of the country. In 1957, the government of the USSR, noting the importance of metallurgy and appreciating the work of workers in the industry, established a professional holiday – Metallurgist’s Day.

After the collapse of the Union, the holiday did not disappear from the calendar, because metallurgy remains one of the most important industries in modern Our Country.

Metallurgist Day is celebrated by everyone whose work is somehow connected with this industry. First of all, these are, of course, employees of metallurgical and mining and processing plants: foundry workers, rolling workers, miners. This is a professional holiday also for teachers and students of specialized universities and faculties.

Holiday traditions

This professional holiday is celebrated all over the country, because metallurgical enterprises are located in many cities. Large industrial centers celebrate on a special scale: Chelyabinsk, Magnitogorsk, Stary Oskol, Lipetsk, Cherepovets and others. Here, the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of the Metallurgist are comparable in scale to the Day of the City. They start with a parade in the morning and end with a big concert in the evening.

On a holiday in the cities, solemn processions of employees of metallurgical enterprises with banners and posters are held. Sports competitions, competitions, master classes, exhibitions of creative works are held. In large cities, thematic excursions and open days in factory museums are organized on Metallurgist Day. Sometimes the program is so large that it does not fit in one day – and the holiday begins to be celebrated the day before, on Saturday.

Metallurgist’s Day falls in the very middle of summer, so many city events are held outdoors, and everyone can take part in them.

The enterprises themselves have their own celebration program. Managers congratulate employees, present them with memorable awards and valuable gifts. There is even such a tradition: it is on Metallurgist’s Day that new equipment is launched at factories.
