Menthol is an organic substance that is obtained synthetically or isolated from mint essential oil.
Menthol oil
Menthol has a fairly wide range of uses. First, it is popular in pharmaceuticals and is found in many pharmaceuticals. Painkillers, antiviral drugs are made from it. Menthol is the main component of the well-known validol.
In the food industry, it is added in the process of making confectionery products, various drinks, and chewing gums. It is added to the manufacture of detergents and air fresheners.
In cosmetology

- able to reduce pores on the face, thereby reducing the secretion of sebum;
- helps in the fight against “orange peel” (cellulite). Recipe:
To prepare a remedy for cellulite, the following components are required: 1 tablespoon of fresh blackcurrant juice, 100 ml. peppermint oil, 10 g of dried calendula flowers. Mix the juice and oil and pour over the calendula. The mixture should be infused in a dark place for 3 days.
This tool is used as compresses. To do this, you need pieces of clean cloth (gauze can be used) of a suitable size. Soak them in the solution and place them on the orange peel spots. The compress should be fixed with cellophane film. The procedure time is five hours!
For the best effect, treatment sessions should be done every other day for a month. Don’t stop when you see positive changes. For best results, you should combine these procedures with fitness classes or morning jogging.
Peppermint oil applications

- has an antispasmodic effect;
- indicated for acute pharyngitis, laryngitis and tracheitis;

- for hair health, it is added to shampoo.
For a compress: mix 10 ml. oil and 100 ml. water. In the resulting composition, moisten the gauze and apply to the damaged area, fix with a bandage.
Menthol (peppermint) oil can be used to treat sprains. It not only relieves pain, but also reduces muscle tension, swelling, and prevents the appearance of hematomas.
If there is a dislocation of the joint, then a bath with the addition of menthol oil will come to the rescue. To do this, you should take water into the bath (temperature about 40 degrees).
Then add 50 ml to it. butter, mix well. Take within 30 minutes. Try to relax and massage the dislocation area a little. And after the bath, you can rub some clean oil into this place.
For runny nose and cough
If you have a runny nose, then menthol (or peppermint) oil can be used by adding it to a warm drink. Enough 5-7 drops per 200 ml of water. Take three times a day.
For the treatment of a common cold, inhalation with peppermint oil is done. In addition, it can be rubbed into the bridge of the nose. By doing this every 2-3 hours, nasal congestion can be significantly reduced.
Help with colds
Having felt the first signs of colds, you can make a compress and put it on the chest. To do this, take a piece of gauze and soak it in a solution of menthol oil and water. It is placed on the chest area. This procedure can be repeated once a day.
