Description of the “Torpedo” melon variety

The famous delicacy is famous for its amazing honey sweetness and looks like a torpedo. It cannot be confused with anything – the shape is elongated, oblong, the rind is of medium thickness, a characteristic yellow hue. The surface is covered with a fine mesh of so-called cracks.

Melon “Torpedo” is famous for its size and bright taste

Inside there is a juicy white-yellow pulp containing a huge amount of useful substances: fiber, minerals, vitamins, pectins, carotene and acids.

Melon is low in calories and belongs to light carbohydrates, which has a positive effect on the work of digestion

Fruits grow on powerful and weaving bushes with lashes spreading in all directions. Real Uzbek melon is very large and weighs up to 15 kg, specimens grown in our country rarely exceed 7 kg.

In addition to the listed advantages, the peel of a ripe kernel is resistant to damage, this allows you to store for a long time and successfully transport the crop over long distances. It is for these qualities that “Torpedo” is considered one of the most demanded melon varieties and is popular with farmers and summer residents.

Uzbek “Torpedo”: how to grow a melon yourself

Planting culture is carried out in the second half of May and lasts for one and a half weeks.

Since the plant is considered late-ripening and loves heat very much, only summer residents of the southern regions have the opportunity to organize melon plantations in the open ground, everyone else has to observe greenhouse conditions and adhere to the seedling method. In order to get a harvest of fragrant fruits, you need to follow the following recommendations:

  1. Before moving the seedlings, it is necessary to dig up and saturate the ground with humus and peat.
  2. The optimal distance between the bushes is from 90 to 200 cm. Only healthy shoots are suitable for planting, starting to release whips.
  3. It is important to tie up the melon with additional support, this reduces the likelihood of damage to the fruit when it comes into contact with the ground during the ripening period.
  4. Remember about regular and generous watering – the surface of the earth dries out quickly, and the root system of the “Torpedo” is shallow, therefore it cannot extract moisture from the lower layers of the soil.

In addition, it is necessary to huddle the plants and remove excess ovaries before it expands in breadth. There should be no more than three ovaries on the bush, only then will you get sweet, large fruits. If the soil is not very fertile on its own, it is recommended to fertilize it once a month.

There are not so many rules, and they are all not much different from growing other vegetables and fruits, except for one. Remember the warmth! If all the recommendations are followed, the fruits will ripen by the end of summer, and already at the beginning of September you can start harvesting your rich harvest.
