The boundless sowing areas in Our Country could not but affect such a phenomenon as land reclamation. The history of reclamation work in our country dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century. Centuries later, land reclamation became one of the main state tasks in the Soviet Union.

Therefore, it is not surprising that, along with other workers of the national economy, domestic land reclamators have acquired their own professional holiday. In this article, we will tell you exactly when the Day of Meliorator 2023 will be celebrated in Our Country.

When is the Day of the meliorator in 2023 in Our Country

The professional holiday is celebrated in first Sunday in June. Meliorator’s Day in 2023 falls on 4th number. Why exactly this date is definitely difficult to say. Based on the season, it is during the warm season that the largest number of land reclamation works are carried out. Although, if you delve into the history of this memorable date, you can give a logical explanation why it is on the first days of June that the Day of the reclamator falls in Our Country. So, what was the basis for honoring meliorators at the very beginning of summer?

history of the holiday

The first domestic law on land reclamation, “The Rule on the Arrangement of Ditches and Other Waterworks on Foreign Lands for Drainage, Irrigation and Watering Purposes,” is dated 1902. Eleven years later, the then State Duma adopted a resolution on making land reclamation one of the priorities of pre-revolutionary Our Country. Thus, the profession of a land reclamator in our country was among the most important and in demand even more than a hundred years ago.

For many decades, the Soviet government paid increased attention to the problems of land reclamation. The profession of land reclamator became more and more significant and respected in the Soviet Union. On May 24, 1976, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the first Sunday of June was declared the Day of the Ameliorator in the country. Based on the date of the decree, workers in this industry of the Soviet Union received their professional holiday in the same year. The date was reconfirmed in modern Our Country and made official by a presidential decree of January 20, 2000. On the basis of this decree, the Day of the reclamator was included in the unified list of professional holidays prepared by the Government of the Federation.

Holiday traditions

Professional holidays in our country are an occasion for corporate meetings of friends and colleagues. Currently, it is increasingly taking on the shape of traditional corporate events. After all, a holiday is one of the forms of human culture, which is a more vivid reflection of life itself. The role of professional holidays in building human relations within a particular industry, determining achievements and the best representatives is important. Land reclamation day in our country can be celebrated by all workers directly related to agriculture. These are agronomists, engineers, mechanics, drivers, farmers, heads of agricultural enterprises.

Also, the Day of the meliorator is revered among teachers, students of agricultural and agricultural universities and academies. A real holiday (binding to a day off for hardworking farmers is not accidental here) is the Amelior’s Day for residents of areas of active agriculture. Indeed, in these territories, almost every family has people involved in the cultivation and care of arable land. A wheat sheaf is a symbol of the holiday of domestic land reclamators. Until recently, in our country there was the honorary title of Honored Amelior of the Federation.

However, the memorable date at the beginning of summer may be related not only to farmers, but also to athletes. Previously, in the Stavropol Territory, the Saratov Region, in the virgin Kazakhstan (Kzyl-Orda, Chimkent), in the Uzbek city of Yangiyer, there were football teams that were called Meliorator. Thus, the representatives of these regions made it clear which profession is their priority. In the era of Soviet football, the players of these teams represented land reclamation companies. Today, a similar name flashes among small football teams in Ukraine and Belarus.

Amelior’s Day in other countries

If the mention of meliorators has penetrated the sport, then in the former Soviet republics they also did not forget about this memorable date. It is interesting that in Belarus the Day of the Ameliorator began to be celebrated even earlier than in Our Country. The memorable date was fixed there by the decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated March 26, 1998. Also in the same period the holiday is celebrated in Ukraine.

In arid Turkmenistan, the day of local land reclamators is known under the poetic name National Water Day “A drop of water is a particle of gold”. It is celebrated according to the calendar much earlier than the others – on the first Sunday of April. The choice of date lends itself to a logical explanation. In hot climates, land reclamation work can begin in early spring.

In 2014, a professional holiday, the Day of Water Resources and Melioration Workers, was established in Azerbaijan, which is also celebrated on the same dates as in our country. It turns out that the first attempts to irrigate the Caspian lands go back to ancient times.

Almost the same – the Day of Water Workers of Kyrgyzstan – is a date on the banks of Issyk-Kul. It only stands in the calendar of the sons of Manas a little later – June 20.

Even later, on July 9, the Day of Water Workers in the Republic of Kazakhstan is celebrated.

And far from the Soviet tradition (September 13) is the Day of the reclamator in Tajikistan.
