Melilax is a medical device in the form of a rectal enema intended for adults, adolescents, children and infants. Melilax is used to cleanse the colon and treat constipation. The preparation also has a protective effect on the rectal mucosa.
Composition of Melilax
Melilax contains promelaxin. It is an active complex of nectar and honeydew honey as well as polysaccharides derived from the leaves of aloe vera and wild mallow.
In addition, Melilax contains a water-glycerin mixture, lemon juice and lavender essential oil. It does not contain gluten.
Action of Melilax
Melilax has a colon cleansing effect. It also protects the rectal mucosa, reduces inflammation and soothes irritations. Melilax also accelerates defecation – it gives a stimulus to activate defecation. The consistency of the preparation (sticky and slippery) means that the rectal mucosa is covered with a protective layer, which facilitates the passage of stools.
Melilax also has an antioxidant and indirect anti-inflammatory effect.
Indications for the use of Melilax
Melilax is used to treat persistent constipation. It can also be used for gastrointestinal hypersensitivity, such as irritable bowel syndrome, anal fissures, and hemorrhoids. Rectal enema Melilax soothes irritations in the anus and reduces the inflammation that often accompanies constipation.
Contraindications to the use of the Melilax medical device
Melilax should not be used by people who are allergic to any of the ingredients of the preparation.
If constipation recurs despite the use of Melilax, a doctor should be consulted, as this may indicate the development of a serious illness.
Melilax side effects
In people who are allergic to the ingredients of Melilax, it may cause allergic reactions.
How is Melilax used?
Melilax is intended for external use. The contents of the microtube should be poured into the anus.
The dosage of Melilax is as follows:
- infants up to 1 year of age: half of a micro-infusion of 5 mg;
- children from 1 to 3 years of age: 1 micro-infusion 5 mg;
- children from 3 to 12 years of age: 1 micro-infusion 5 mg; in the case of long-term constipation, two doses of Melilax can be used simultaneously;
- adults and adolescents: dosing as above.
A few drops of Melilax should be applied around the anus and the ingot should be gently inserted into the opening. Pour its contents into the anus and keep it pressed until the enema is completely removed from the anus. This prevents any fluid from being sucked in.
Precautions when using Melilax
The Melilax rectal microtube is intended for single use only. It cannot be used a second time. In infants, when half the dose is used, the opened enema should not be re-used.
Melilax should not be used after the expiry date stated on the package. The preparation should be stored at room temperature, in a tightly closed container, out of the sight and reach of children.
