The first lady has renewed the rose garden once broken by Jacqueline Kennedy and received a huge dose of social media hate.
The rosary in the western part of the White House was laid in 1962 by President Kennedy. Since then, the garden has become a real icon. Designed by gardener Rachel Lambert Mellon, it smelled of not only roses, but also magnolias, cherries, crabs – ornamental apple trees – tulips and other magnificent plants.
The view of this garden opened from the Oval Office – the heart of the White House. People also loved it because Jacqueline Kennedy – Jackie O, as she was affectionately called – had a hand in its creation.
But recently Melania Trump took over the garden: she decided to modernize the rose garden, which has not changed for the past 60 years. Boldly, of course, considering that people laugh at the current first lady. Especially after Trump pompously said on the question of how he relates to Jackie O: “We have our own Jackie O – her name is Melania T.”

When the garden renovation work was completed, Melania presented the fruits of her labor on Twitter: “I am proud to present the renewed rose garden.” The cry rose to the skies: “You have destroyed the garden that Jackie created! You have no future because you do not honor the past, ”they wrote in the comments. And they even created a special hashtag – “murder of the rose garden”. Yes, to the popularity of Jacqueline Melania is clearly far away.

People didn’t like literally everything: that the roses were white and not red, that a footpath appeared on the lawn, that the decorative apple trees planted by Jackie disappeared, and bushes trimmed in the form of neat boring balls took their place. No more bright colors – only flowers of white and pastel colors, which Melania herself loves so much. The rose garden, in the opinion of most commentators, has become boring, dull, dull.
“You destroyed history,” wrote the first lady.
But professional gardeners stood up for Melania.
“To begin with, Jackie did the same thing in 1962 as Melania does now. She completely transformed the garden, planted in 1913, – writes one of the experts on the social network … “In fact, Melania rebuilt the garden and saved the roses.”
First of all, the gardener responded to all claims to brightness: on Twitter, for comparison, they put Jackie O’s spring garden, where tulips were blooming, and the current Melania is almost autumn. Tulips simply do not bloom in the fall, that’s all. And the roses are pruned – this is necessary in order to maintain the health of the bushes after the flowering is over.
“Crabs? They were removed to be moved to another location. You may not have noticed, but in 60 years they have grown a lot and shaded the rose garden. And roses don’t like shade! ” – the specialist continues.
In addition, the garden’s infrastructure, which had become dilapidated over the past 60 years, needed replacement. Sewerage, drainage, lighting – everything needed to be changed. And from this point of view, the appearance of a footpath is justified.
“Stop screaming that everything Melania does is bad. Give yourself the trouble to sort things out a little. Moreover, very respected specialists were engaged in the garden, ”the gardener concludes.
