Mel belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that are used to treat rheumatoid diseases. It belongs to the oxicam family. It has an anti-inflammatory effect, but also has an analgesic and antipyretic effect. It can be used in the treatment of osteoarticular and muscle pains resulting from rheumatoid diseases and joint degeneration.

Mel is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is a drug recommended for treating the symptoms of rheumatoid diseases. These include RA and ankylosing spondylitis. How to use Mel tablets?

Mel – action

The drug has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. It owes its action to inhibition of prostaglandin cyclooxygenesis. Mel is well absorbed and has a high bioavailability. Most of it undergoes biotransformation in the liver and is excreted from the human body in the urine and faeces.

Mel – indications

Mel is a drug indicated in the treatment of osteoarticular and muscle pains that occur in the course of rheumatoid and degenerative joint diseases. The drug is used for a short time in order to reduce the troublesome symptoms of rheumatoid diseases. These include rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.

Mel – contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation is a contraindication to the use of Mel. People who have already experienced symptoms of hypersensitivity, such as nasal polyps, urticaria or symptoms of bronchial asthma, should be especially careful.

People with gastric or duodenal ulcer disease, perforation or bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, cerebral vessels, etc., and severe liver, kidney or heart failure must also stop using Mel. Contraindication to the use of Mel is the low age of the patient (under 15 years of age), the third trimester of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Mel – side effects

The most common side effects include indigestion, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, gas, diarrhea and headache. Rarely, anemia, allergic reactions, drowsiness, dizziness, increased blood pressure, flushing of the facial skin, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, inflammation of the gastric and oral mucosa, liver disorders, itching or rash may occur. It may also appear, among others leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, nightmares, tinnitus, asthma attacks, colitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

Mel – interactions

Mel in combination with other NSAIDs may lead to an increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding. Therefore, the use of these drugs together is not recommended. The combination of Mel with diuretics, anticoagulants, thrombolytics, antiplatelet agents and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists and corticosteroids should also be avoided.

Mel – dosage

Mel is a medicine that is taken by mouth. The dose should be individually adjusted depending on the patient’s response to the drug. Most often it is 1 tablet applied under the tongue once a day in adults and adolescents over 15 years of age.

The tablet is placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve. Then swallow, if necessary, drink some water.
