Medlar at home growing

Lovers of exotic plants are well aware of this plant – medlar. At home, it is easiest to grow it from seed or vegetatively. Each of the methods has its own characteristics, and their knowledge will help you grow a beautiful and healthy tree.

Growing medlar from a bone

It is believed that propagation by seeds helps to preserve all the qualities of the parent plant. This method is most often used for growing German medlar. The seed must be planted within 2-3 days after being removed from the fetus. If this happens later, the chances of fruiting will be minimal. Planting soil is best purchased from a store, as it already contains the nutrients the plant needs.

When growing medlar at home, watering should be done 4 times a week

Bone planting technology:

  1. Sand the seeds to speed up the emergence of seedlings.
  2. Place the bone in water with a growth stimulator for a day.
  3. Plant it in moist soil to a depth of 2-3 cm.
  4. Cover the container with clear plastic for a greenhouse effect.
  5. Spray the soil surface regularly with a spray bottle and remove the film for a couple of hours daily to ventilate.

Seedlings appear no earlier than a month later. When the sprouts reach 2 cm, the film should be removed and the plant should be kept at a temperature of at least 18-20 ° C. It has been noticed that when the temperature is maintained at 22-25 ° C, germination occurs much faster.

Medlar – how to grow a tree from a cutting

For vegetative propagation, the upper part of the shoots 12 to 15 cm long is used. You can simply place the cuttings in a dark opaque bottle with warm water, but in this case, new roots will appear no earlier than 2 months later. You can shorten this period by planting cuttings in the soil.

The process of planting cuttings:

  1. Cut off the top of the shoot, make sure there are at least two buds on it.
  2. Cut off the leaves from the cutting, leaving only the top two leaves.
  3. Dry the lower part slightly and cover with ash to prevent decay.
  4. Plant the cutting to a depth of 3 cm in the soil.
  5. Cover the seedling with a jar to maintain proper moisture and temperature levels.

The plant takes root in a month, provided that the ambient temperature is maintained in the range of 22-25 ° C. Subject to the rules of planting and caring for loquat, already at 3-4 years of plant life, you can harvest the first harvest of very useful and tasty fruits.
