The center was founded in 1998. Since its inception, the center has been staffed by rheumatologists specializing in the problem of osteoporosis. The creator and the first head of the center is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Therapy of the YSMA Ershova Olga Borisovna.

The main task of the Center for Diagnosis and Prevention of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis on the basis of the Yaroslavl Clinical Emergency Hospital named after NV Solovyova is prevention and timely detection of osteoporosis. Every year, the Center’s specialists consult about 6000 patients with suspected osteoporosis; the Center conducts about 7000 different studies. The center is equipped with modern equipment for the diagnosis of osteoporosis, including two installations for osteodensitometry – a method by which bone mineral density is determined and osteoporosis or a predisposition to it is detected.

The Osteoporosis Medical and Diagnostic Center carries out:

• consultations with a rheumatologist on the problem of osteoporosis;
• consultations with a rheumatologist on the problems of differential diagnosis of diseases of the skeletal system (hyperparathyroidism, osteomalacia, Paget’s bone disease, myeloma, metastatic bone lesions, and others);
• the appointment of modern therapy for osteoporosis, assessment of the effectiveness and correction of therapy;
• prescribing therapy for other rheumatological diseases of the skeletal system (osteomalacia, Paget’s disease, secondary hyperparathyroidism with vitamin D deficiency, and others);
• consultations with a rheumatologist on joint pathology and other rheumatological diseases (diagnostics, differential diagnostics, treatment, observation and correction of therapy);
• X-ray osteodensitometry;
• intra-articular administration of various drugs for joint pathology, intravenous administration of drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis;
