1 / Treat the cause

Example: antibiotic therapy for streptococcal infection, treatment of sarcoidosis by corticosteroid therapy, etc.

2 / Symptomatic treatment of erythema nodosum

2.1 / Bed rest

Le bed rest for two weeks is an essential measure, because the standing position favors the occurrence of new relapses.

2.2 / Pain relief

The doctor prescribes analgesics:

paracetamol, 1 to 3 g / 24 h, spacing out the catches of at least four hours;

– acetylsalicylic acid, 2 to 4 g / 24 h for 7 to 15 days.

2.3 / In the event of joint pain or in the absence of improvement under analgesics:

The doctor then prescribes non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 10 days:

indomethacin (Indocid®, 50 to 150 mg / 24 h in divided doses);

– naproxen (Naprosyne®, 250 mg twice a day with meals).

2.4 / Other treatments

THEiodide potassium, at a dosage of 300 mg / day for 7 to 15 days, is an effective and rapid treatment, but which is used less and less. Prolonged use exposes to hyperthyroidism.

La oral corticosteroid therapy is only justified in severe forms after ruling out an active infection or cancer
