Treatment ofedema legs usually requires treating the underlying disease or problem.

In addition to recommending preventive measures basic, the doctor may prescribe diuretics (thiazide, furosemide [Lasix®], spironolactone) and a diet low in salt to facilitate the elimination of superfluous liquids. However, diuretics are not indicated for all patients, especially pregnant women and those with venous insufficiency. Obviously, if edema is caused by taking an NSAID or a drug to treat high blood pressure, it can be stopped on the advice of the doctor.

The doctor may also recommend keeping the legs in an elevated position or wearing compression stockings to prevent the accumulation of liquids.
