Medical treatments and complementary approaches to Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
Medical treatments
No drugs are currently available to treat Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Treatments can relieve some symptoms and prevent complications.
Physical support
Specific exercises strengthen the muscles in order to stabilize the joints and reduce muscle fatigue and pain. Wearing corsets or orthotics can sometimes stabilize the joints.
pharmaceuticals
Certain medications such as topical anesthetics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), for example Advil®, Motrin®, Aspirin®, help reduce muscle or joint pain.
surgery
In rare cases, surgery is recommended to straighten joints damaged by repeated dislocations. However, recovery from surgery is difficult in people with ADS because of the fragility of the skin.
Complementary approaches
There is no scientific data today to treat or prevent Ehlers-Danlos syndrome using alternative therapies.
