At the beginning of the academic year, medical students will be tested for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. Polish scientists have developed an innovative economic group testing method that allows to determine how widespread the virus is in a given population.

Coronavirus Tests Among Students

The tests will be conducted using the method developed within the SONAR Anty-CoronaVirus project by the Instytut Biologii Doświadczalnej im. Marceli Nencki PAS in cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw and laboratories of the Sanepid and Medical University in Łódź.

The first to be examined are students who attend classes in health care facilities and contact patients. The tests are screening, so people who do not show symptoms of infection will also be included in them.

Group tests will be used for the research, as well as PCR genetic tests available on the Polish market (including the MediPAN test developed at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań). One test will allow you to check samples taken from about 10 people.
