McDonald’s and ElTenedor in support of families with children in hospital treatment

The solidarity initiative in favor of the Ronald McDonald Foundation has the motto “wherever you eat, the important thing is to help.”

Next Friday, November 24, all McDonald’s restaurants in Spain celebrate McHappy Day, the most supportive day that the company carries out worldwide, coinciding with the celebrations of World Children’s Day.

Throughout the day and in McDonald’s restaurants in Spain and Andorra, all proceeds from the sale of the iconic Big Mac go entirely to the Ronald McDonald Children’s Foundation, whose objective is the construction and maintenance of the Ronald Houses McDonald’s, homes where families with children who receive long-term hospital treatment outside their usual residence stay.

In this edition, and as a novelty, McDonald’s has wanted to go one step further involving the restaurant sector under the slogan “Wherever you eat, the important thing is to help.” To do this, McDonald’s collaborates with ElTenedor, a leading online platform for restaurant reservations through which the McHappy Day spirit is extended to thousands of users.

A solidarity Proposal beyond hamburgers

McHappy Day is celebrated on November 24 in the more than 500 McDonald’s restaurants in Spain and Andorra. As of that date and until December 1, all consumers who so wish may contribute through the establishments attached to the ElTenedor network.

Participating in this charitable cause is as simple as making a reservation through the ElTenedor platform at one of the collaborating restaurants. For each reservation made in the participating restaurants with the menu designed for the occasion, € 1 will go to the Ronald McDonald Children’s Foundation.

The amount raised thanks to this initiative will cover the complete needs of a year in a Ronald McDonald House, which translates into supporting more than 150 families on average per year.

The Ronald McDonald Foundation in Spain

There are currently four Ronald McDonald Houses in Spain, located in hospitals in Barcelona, ​​Malaga, Valencia and Madrid, which have been a home for more than 7.000 families since the opening of the first one in 2002. Every day, they welcome and support 68 families who travel far from home so that their children receive the best possible medical treatment.

These Houses allow the sharing of experiences between families who are going through the same situation, always supported by the management team and the invaluable help of a team of volunteers who provide their support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In these 14 years of presence in Spain, more than 7.000 families have passed through the Ronald McDonald Houses of our country, where the stay is completely free. Each year, these Houses represent a saving in accommodation, parking, transport, etc., of more than one million euros for all the families housed.

To support the social purposes of the Ronald McDonald Children’s Foundation, all McDonald’s restaurants in Spain contribute 0,1% of daily sales, which translates into approximately one million euros per year to provide support and accommodation to families with children. sick. In addition, the Foundation also receives funding from other private companies, donations from individuals and clients through the ballot boxes installed in restaurants for this purpose, and public aid.
