Maybock or light side (Maibock, Helles Bock)

Appeared later than other sides. The name translates as “May side”, and this is not quite a direct synonym for light (helles). Most often, the styles are identical, but it happens that festival hop beer is called Maibock. Special malts add fruity notes to the bouquet.

The beer is well attenuated, has a pronounced aroma of malt, grainy notes, nuances of toast are felt in the bouquet. If there is a hop profile, it shows up with hints of spices, flowers, herbs. A slight taste of dimethyl sulfide does not contradict the style standards.

Color – clear, golden, transparent. In the glass, the drink forms a rich and dense foam. The finish is dry and balanced.

Maibock has a round, soft taste in the mouth, despite the relatively high carbonation, the beer is not astringent, although alcohol can be felt.

In the manufacture of two types of malt are taken as the basis: Vienna and Pils. Unmalted additives are not allowed. It also requires szatec hops, lager yeast, decoction mashing is used.

The style is similar to a strong Munich helles. Considered a lighter version of dark bock, but contains more hops and less malt in the bouquet. Compared to Festbeer, it has a deeper profile and increased strength.
